Immunology is a fast-growing business area at Lilly with the possibility to double the number of marketed immunology medicines over the next year. Our immunology business is working to deliver breakthrough outcomes for patients struggling with immune-mediated disorders. Our communication needs - from traditional to digital to social - continue to evolve, and we must communicate in ways that are modern, innovative, and effective.
The Senior Director - Environment Shaping Communications is a critical member of the Immunology communications team, working in close integration with U.S. and OUS environment shaping team members. The position will work across the immunology portfolio to lead communications for assigned environment shaping initiatives supporting advancing patient care in autoimmune diseases and elevating Lilly's profile as a growing immunology company. The position provides strategic support to other corporate affairs team members as well as cross-functionally with organizations including marketing, medical, medical affairs, legal, ethics and compliance, etc.
The candidate will report to the Associate Vice President of the Immunology Business Unit Corporate Affairs (BUCA) team, which operates within corporate affairs while directly supporting the Lilly Immunology Business Unit. You will work with U.S. and global business colleagues in Lilly Immunology as well as with cross-functional colleagues within the Immunology BUCA. This role supports patient advocacy collaborating with those in Corporate Communications, Executive Communications, Corporate Digital and Social Media, Employee Communications, Investor Relations and Global Corporate Affairs. The candidate must approach the work with a Team Lilly mentality - being flexible and finding ways to support the greater good.

Specific Responsibilities:
- Develop and lead disease state and consumer communications for patients, caregivers, and health care teams that ladder back to business strategic objectives.
- Develop and implement key communications to support campaigns designed to shape environmental understanding of unmet patient needs and barriers to access in immunology.
- Work with internal teams on patient stories and digital amplification strategies.
- Set the annual communications environment shaping agenda for Lilly Immunology. This includes identifying and aligning on opportunities to position Lilly as an immunology leader and on top disease-state policy priorities, developing coordinated plans for cross-functional execution.
- Build a deep understanding of brand, medical and business objectives and develop communications solutions that deliver on Lilly's strategic immunology goals.
- Work externally to advance communications for environment shaping campaigns with national, top-tier communication organizations.
- Enhance the Lilly brands by exemplifying Lilly values and brand characteristics.
- With Lilly advocacy and professional relations, find opportunities to enhance the effectiveness of advocacy groups through communications.
- Build strong internal and external working relationships with key external partners to meet immunology environment shaping objectives.
- Work with legal and compliance functions to outline appropriate guardrails related to influencing the external environment through communications
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree
- 7+ years of communications experience
- Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to be employed in the United States. Lilly does not anticipate providing sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H-1B or TN status) for this employment position
Additional Skills/Preferences
- Demonstrated success developing and implementing communication environment shaping campaigns
- Experience supporting a business unit and supporting crucial communications goals
- Proven ability in leading, handling and aligning cross-functional teams and complex results; ability to develop good working relationships to secure agreement across all functions
- Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to convey complexity in a simple fashion
- Previous experience with or knowledge of drug development and commercialization
- Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to lead strategy projects, engage others and translate strategy into implementation tactics and capabilities
- Confirmed ability to influence others and lead without authority
- Excellent communication and relational skills across functional and geographic boundaries as well as across, up, and down the organizational ladder
