Senior Director, Federal Affairs

Position Purpose: Represent Centene as the primary point-of-contact with federal government personnel and agencies

Oversee and direct Centene's proactive government relations program

Develop, execute, and lead strategies to favorably position Centene and its core public policy objectives with critical governmental audiences

Oversee and manages Centene's government relations annual summit with parties of the federal government

Works with all of the health plans on development of State Snapshots (literature that provides an overview that Centene has on the community).

Lead government staffer for Independence at home (lead interface for this program)

Provide senior strategic counsel to senior leadership

Direct internal and external communications programs with Centene's Products and Health Plan teams to share expertise on the insurance industry, managed care, Medicare and Medicaid program

Research and monitor legislative activities, regulatory activities, as well as print and media broadcast and help develop the company's position

Perform analytical review of proposed legislative actions and determine the potential impact on Centene

Drive planning and drafting of white papers and presentation materials produced in the Washington DC office - Lead, oversee and prepare literature (hand-out materials) used for all federal government relations

Assist in constructing and leveraging stakeholders to systematically build and maintain government relations to provide a sound platform for engagement

Provide leadership and direction to government relations managers and analysts (serves as a key-point employee on the government relations team)

Education/Experience:

Bachelor's degree in Health Policy, Public Policy, related field or equivalent experience. Master's degree in related field preferred. 8+ years of combined public policy and lobbying experience. Previous event planning experience and working with elected officials at the federal level preferred.

License/Certification: Certification as Registered Lobbyist preferred.
