The Position
This position is responsible for leading the Global IT Operations (GITO) US area in the delivery of highly available, customer focused, cost-effective infrastructure and operations services for North America (currently all North America affiliates across the US and Canada, including Product Supply Manufacturing sites, Research sites and other offices). The area is organized and works according to Agile, and is focused on Infrastructure Management, Digital Workplace, Service Desk and Onsite support, and IT Vendor Management.
This role seeks to maintain and ensure alignment and collaboration between the strategic operational needs of GITO and NAO DD&IT organizations, including core NAO business functions. This individual is key to contributing to and ensuring alignment of the GITO US area with the overall GITO Product strategies and service delivery efforts across 4 global product areas. This position will provide leadership to all GITO employees and departments working at Novo Nordisk (NN) US and Canadian affiliates.
Relationships
This position reports to the CVP of GITO, Global IT Operations within Data, Digital & Information Technology (DD&IT) with a dotted reporting line to the VP of Information Technology, NAO DD & IT at Novo Nordisk, Inc. (NNI), while also being part of the NNI IT Leadership team. The role ensures coordination and alignment between the US Global Data Centre and the Global Data Centre strategy defined by the GITO Product. Interacts with the GITO Product Teams to support the development of the global strategies, align services and service levels and management for all NN entities in the North American region. Direct reports to this position include directors, managers, and an assistant. Interacts frequently with all levels of the organization and acts as focal point for all local stakeholders including legal, procurement, facilities, audit and compliance, IT applications team, project execution and architecture teams. The position may also manage multiple external relationships with service providers e.g. network, telephony, data center services, cloud services, and other external service providers. This position also manages the relationships with the IT groups of the North America affiliates and is a member of the Global IT Operations management team ensuring alignment with the overall GITO Product strategies. This position has a broad reach beyond NNI having responsibility for providing GITO services to FP, OFP, IFP, DAPI and BAPI product supply locations and multiple Research and Development locations as well as the Canadian sales affiliate.
Essential Functions

  • Analyzes & Fulfills Business Needs:
    • Establish, maintain and manage SLAs with the affiliates to ensure service levels are met or exceeded
    • Serve as a valued advisor to stakeholders by anticipating needs and developing solutions that are aligned with business strategies
    • Utilize extensive knowledge of the global and local business functions to research and evaluate new and future technologies that promote the strategic direction of the organization
  • Builds Relationships & Influences Key Stakeholders:
    • Collaborate globally to ensure involvement and influence over the decision making and strategic planning process. Host and organize regular stakeholder meetings across the affiliates
    • Key participant in Novo Nordisk worldwide IT committees and advisory groups as needed
    • Seek out, builds and maintains trusting and collaborative relationships and partnerships with global internal and external stakeholders in ways that accomplish key business objectives, and influence others to do the same
    • Provides counsel to business leaders and stakeholders regarding IT policies, solutions and initiatives
  • Organizational Context:
    • Leads employees, including Subject Matter Experts, operating within several different domains and/or geographies
    • Manages organizational structure and ensures it continues to meet the existing and future needs of the business
    • Navigates a complex stakeholder network, including LoB senior leaders
    • Responsible for implementation of strategic long-term cross-organizational people-related initiatives (e.g. on mental wellbeing or critical competency development)
    • Considers the impact of decisions and initiatives on other areas of the organization
  • Executes IT Strategic Plans:
    • Support local teams to ensure they are well integrated in the global agile delivery organization
    • In collaboration with product managers, ensure evaluation of emerging technologies and business potential or impact (including prototyping)
    • Support the product areas in planning, architecture and optimization to meet business goals and objectives
    • Support the product areas in developing and execution on a strategy aligned with business needs
    • In alignment with the GITO Product areas, NAO DD&IT, and NAO develop and execute a regional IT operations plan for North America ensuring global coherence and further standardization of operations towards a uniform global IT operations setup
    • Plans for and ensure resources are allocated in alignment with IT and Novo Nordisk strategies to maximize return on investment
  • Manages IT Vendors:
    • For local and global contracts, assess vendor performance (i.e., against KPIs and SLAs) and identify areas that can be improved in the future
    • When requested, take an active role of vendor selections and reviews for North America to ensure global alignment with the GITO Product strategies and product area owners
    • Select and maintain vendors based on performance and service delivery (via SLAs and KPIs); oversee on-boarding and off-boarding of vendors as required
  • Provide Financial Oversight of the IT Budget:
    • Ensure compliance with budget timelines and policies
    • Responsible for local FTE budget controlling, plans and management


Physical Requirements
0-10% overnight travel required.
Development of People
Supervisory. Ensure that reporting personnel have individual development plans (IDP), with annual goals and measurements that are consistent with the priorities of the business, and that interim reviews are held so that their work is focused on those priorities, and they understand their level of accountability for results and the measurement process. Ensure that the IDP forms include completed learning and aspiration plans and are in place for all reporting personnel to enable the achievement of goals and capability to assume increased levels of responsibility. Manage the application and communication of all Novo Nordisk policies, procedures, and Novo Nordisk Way.
Qualifications

  • Required
    • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration or other related field required. Advanced degree is preferred
    • 10 plus years managerial experience required
    • Demonstrated ability to develop strategic plans with practical implementation of those strategies
    • Experienced in managing Service Level Agreements (SLA's)
    • Understanding of infrastructure architecture planning and deployment
    • Global stakeholder management experience
    • Experience providing IT services for multiple countries in a Global Matrix organization
    • Proven record of budget forecasting and management
    • Proven track record of strong people management skills
    • Vendor negotiations skills
    • Solid understanding of the Agile methodology
  • Preferred
    • Ability to act as advisor to management and customers on advanced complex technical research studies
    • Advanced understanding and experience with outsourcing evaluations, implementations and contract management, including the Novo Nordisk Global Business Services
  • A Plus
    • Experience in helping build a learning culture in large organizations
