The Senior Director, Inclusion & Diversity reports to the Chief People Officer and is responsible for leading the development and implementation of Fastly’s I&D enterprise strategy, programs, and initiatives which support business performance and employee belonging. This leader will be forward-thinking and a strategic practitioner in areas of inclusion, diversity, equity and belonging. Building upon a strong foundation, this role will be key in scaling Inclusion & Diversity across Fastly and engaging all employees and leaders to drive even greater change across our organizations. This role will work cross-functionally within the People team and throughout Fastly and facilitate integrated planning, communication and governance frameworks to execute against established goals.
This leader will help develop strategies, define objectives, and translate concepts into practical and actionable solutions. You will work closely with the Sr. Staff and People team to consult and embed solutions into people-related programs and initiatives and align with Fastly’s talent strategy.The Senior Director, I&D will nurture, inspire, provide guidance and oversight to Fastly’s ERGs, Inclusion Council, and other groups, as developed, to align strategy, resources and decision-making. This role is also responsible for tracking and reporting I&D metrics and progress, partnering across HR and business teams.
This position is based in San Francisco, CA.
What You'll Do
- Evolve and own the I&D strategy and foundation currently in place; identify areas of strength and opportunities for greater impact; incorporate into key initiatives including the People team roadmap, goals and multi-year priorities.
- Provide leadership and support for I&D initiatives and events across ERGs and at the global level; strike the appropriate balance between education and awareness with execution and tactical operations.
- Partner with broader People and Employee Experience teams to integrate key concepts of equity, allyship, inclusion, and diversity into existing talent management programs, change management initiatives, learning and development, recruitment efforts, policies and practices.
- Identify practical and robust solutions and ideas for gathering employee sentiment across Fastly; leverage as key insights and feedback to drive focus areas; (Note: Survey tool selection, process and program management will be owned by People Operations/Employee Experience; The I&D leader will help lead strategy and co-develop design with other key stakeholders).
- Be a strong and objective voice for inclusion and diversity across multiple stakeholder groups (People Team, Communications, Employee Experience, Marketing, Executive Leadership) - incorporating perspective, feedback, and insight to drive effective change. Assess, consult and provide action-focused recommendations that groups at Fastly can quickly apply.
- In partnership with Talent & Development, create programs that increase capability of our People Manager community to foster a culture of inclusion and equity, delivering scalable, inclusive programming that moves all employees forward.
- In partnership with Legal, Total Rewards and People Operations, facilitate and manage pay equity studies and effective resolution strategies as needed.
- Research and provide I&D subject matter expertise, strategic planning, thought leadership, coaching, education and consultancy to HR and leaders to drive key business outcomes.
- Partner with People Operations Reporting & Analytics to build measurement tools for driving accountability and effectiveness of our initiatives; This includes owning and educating on Affirmative Action, EEO plans and ongoing communications.
- Operate as a highly credible and objective leader who can facilitate complex problem solving with multiple audiences, applying a high level of EQ and relevant subject matter expertise; capable of diffusing conflict during crisis situations and matters of significance which may carry reputational or brand risk.
- Provide I&D expertise and perspective in definition and implementation of enterprise engagement strategy and approach, employee value proposition and other measurement tools/processes.
- Elevate Fastly’s brand in the area of I&D - increase our visibility through strategic external partnerships, engagements, and other channels where we can be differentiated as an Employer.
- Plan and manage I&D budget and budget process for ERGs and initiatives; proven ability to demonstrate ROI on key investments.
- Effectively manage I&D team members, directing their work and providing coaching and development to build a high-performing, collaborative team.
Work Hours: This position will require you to be available during core business hours.
What We're Looking For
Basic Qualifications:
- 10+ years of progressive experience in developing and implementing inclusion and diversity strategies on a global scale in a fast-growth environment; Ability to build, deliver and track to a strategic plan while bringing others along with their vision.
- At least 3 years of people leadership experience with ability to coach and develop direct and in-direct reports
- A visionary who can paint a compelling picture of Fastly’s future while also navigating a multi-year roadmap and strategic plan for day-to-day execution
- Ability to align I&D to company objectives, including making a business case for investments
- Experience planning, leading, and measuring the impact of global programs at scale with an established point of view on intersectionality
- Extensive experience partnering with HR and other business teams to deliver programs across large, cross-functional audiences in support of cultivating more diverse, inclusive, and equitable workplaces
- Exceptional influencing, communication, and relationship-building skills. Proven track record of raising leadership awareness and cultivating engagement and accountability across multiple levels within the company -- executives through employees.
- Experience partnering with HR teams to drive diversity results- specifically in diversity recruiting, diverse talent management, advancement and employee retention programs
- Expert skills in data analysis, identifying trends, determining return on investment of programs, and tracking diversity metrics globally to share a clear narrative and insights to internal and external stakeholders.
- Working knowledge of employment laws and regulations, particularly those that may influence decision making or priorities on a global scale
- Accomplished at facilitating dialogue and conversation around emotionally-sensitive topics using empathy, emotional intelligence, data and conflict management tools.
- A passion for staying current on the latest research in diversity, equity, inclusion, related news, and best practices with ability to represent Fastly externally in I&D contexts
- Strong interpersonal communication, consulting, facilitation, influencing and people leadership skills
- Advanced program management skills including the ability to adapt to a changing environment and managing a wide variety of projects and disciplined budget management skills
- Strong organizational change management experience
- Excellent writing and presentation skills with a sharp eye for visual branding and storytelling

Fastly currently embraces a largely hybrid model for most roles which allows employees flexibility to split their time between the office and home.
This position may require travel as required by your role or requested by your manager.
Salary
The estimated salary range for this position is $194,040 to $285,350.
Starting salary may vary based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as experience, skills, qualifications, and location.
This role may be eligible to participate in Fastly’s equity and discretionary bonus programs.
