At Affirm, our compliance program activities include advisory, training, independent testing & monitoring, reporting, and oversight. As the second line of defense, we proactively partner with the business to support new products, markets, and initiatives.
We're seeking a Senior Director of International Compliance to lead an international team of compliance professionals in Canada, Australia and other markets. This remote US-based role will report to the VP, Consumer Compliance / Head of Global Compliance and will work cross-functionally across the company.
In this role, you will be responsible for compliance programs in multiple geographic markets, collaborate on new products and services, and scope the regulatory landscape in new geographic markets. The role will also lead compliance due diligence efforts for M&A activity both domestically and internationally.
What you'll do
  • Lead a team of local country market compliance professionals and supervise programs in each local jurisdiction.
  • Develop a strategy to drive consistency across international markets and adherence to both local regulatory requirements and the global compliance program.
  • Assess key compliance risks associated with new business initiatives and geographic markets, including providing direction and guidance to executive/senior leadership
  • Be a trusted advisor and leverage subject matter knowledge to drive dialogue and guide discussions to drive informed compliance risk based decisions
  • Develop compliance analytics and reporting for all international markets.
  • Maintain oversight and reporting of compliance issues to identify trends and develop corrective action plans
  • Develop relationships with key regulators, external partners, management executives and confidently present to senior management re: the status of the program and emerging risks.
  • Work as a leader on a cross-functional basis across all business units throughout the company, but very closely with Commercial, Legal, Credit Risk, Operations, Engineering, Technology, Product and Finance.

What we look for
  • 15+ years of proven experience in the financial services industry, with specific experience in Compliance, or other controls related areas. Experience with non-US markets preferred.
  • Deep understanding and experience in consumer lending and protection
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to understand business processes, analyze potential risks and creatively to recommend appropriate solutions.
  • Consistent track record of fostering relationships across all levels and operating through influence, with the confidence to formulate, advocate and drive ideas forward
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including compromise and diplomacy in sensitive situations and interacting with senior management
  • Highly focused, able to make independent decisions and work with limited supervision while excelling in a fast-paced environment
  • Humility, integrity and a killer sense of humor; you take your work seriously but not yourself
