Senior Director, Investor Relations
Job Description
Reporting into the CEO or CFO, this role responsible for leading investor relations for atai Life Sciences, fostering effective communication and cultivating key relationships.

atai Life Sciences is a biopharmaceutical company focused on developing novel treatments for mental health conditions so that everyone, everywhere, can live a more fulfilled life. We aim to enable mental health patients to achieve clinically meaningful and sustained behavioral change by developing rapid-acting compounds with durable efficacy as well as digital therapeutics.
We operate a hybrid virtual/in-person working model, with most of the team spending time in our offices as required. atai hubs are in Berlin, New York City, and San Diego.
In your first 6 months, you will have:
- Built in-depth knowledge and understanding of atai’s pipeline programs including clinical, regulatory, commercial, and competitive landscape, equity story and existing investor relations activities
- Developed and aligned with leadership on holistic IR plan (funnel, prioritization of investors and action plan with SMART goals) to engage with all relevant investor groups
- Successfully, and with a hands-on approach, led the preparation and execution of multiple investor events
- Established strong relationships within the organization and key stakeholders
- Built trust and credibility inside the organization providing a critical (investor) lens on our programs
- Established relationship with key existing investors and NASDAQ
The specifics of your day-to-day will include:
- Aligning with leadership and the communications team to craft targeted financial messages for diverse investor groups.
- Actively managing the investor funnel and proactively engaging with investors, selling the atai story.
- Leading or supporting the creation of written materials, such as press releases, Q&As, presentations, fact sheets, and website content in collaboration with the Communications Lead, including overseeing the IR content on the atai website.
- Maintaining and communicating competitive intelligence on industry peers, conducting industry research to inform IR and Communications strategy and distilling insights from markets and competitors to wider management team.
- Executing analysis and creating periodic feedback reports on the company’s financial and operating performance, analysts’ estimates, and perceptions.
- Participating in atai development team meetings, providing an investor lens to programs and decisions.
- Developing and maintaining an annual schedule of investor relations events, including news and earnings releases.
- Developing and executing a strategic annual shareholder communication plan.
- Preparing information for the Annual Report and other financial communications.
- Managing the Investor Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system.
- Managing and nurturing the relationship with NASDAQ.
- Coordinating and managing external IR agency activities.
- Supporting various IR activities, including coordination and travel to conferences, investor roadshows, and media events.
- Contributing to project-related documents, budgets, presentations, patents, and regulatory submissions.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Experience, network, and leadership in clinical-stage biotech investor relations roles.
- Mission-driven mindset.
- Proven sales-oriented approach, driving results in investor engagement.
- Exceptional networking and presentation skills.
- Demonstrated proactive attitude and adaptability in fast-paced environments, with a collaborative track record in cross-functional teams.
- Able to maintain professional integrity in high-pressure situations, highly empathetic in multi-cultural environments.
- Polished and articulate with excellent organizational and project management capabilities.
- PhD in life sciences is a plus.
- Proficient in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, with exceptional verbal and written communication skills and the ability to craft powerful messages.

- If the successful candidate is based in the United States, the base salary is expected to be $220,000 - $280,000 depending on specific location, skills and experience. Candidates applying from other locations should be aware that the salary will vary based on local considerations.
