Senior Director of Business Development & Capture Management
Job Description
Ursa Major was founded to address a critical shortfall in the U.S. industrial base and bring a new model to aerospace and defense systems: we design and manufacture the world’s leading propulsion systems for space, hypersonic applications, and missile systems.Â
Our products and technologies require an extraordinary team – a team that will mold tomorrow’s technologies while deploying today’s best. We are an intrinsically motivated team that has a passion for solving problems and empowering each other every day to develop our skills, knowing that there is always room for growth.
Ursa Major is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Director of Business Development & Capture Management to lead our efforts in securing contracts related to the federal government, the Department of Defense (DOD), and Prime Contracts. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of success in business development within the aerospace and defense industry, with a focus on cultivating relationships, identifying opportunities, and closing deals.Â
This role could be located in either Washington D.C., Dayton, Ohio, or Huntsville, Alabama. It would require 25-50% travel to D.C. if remote.Â
Responsibilities:Â
- Develop and execute strategic, cross-functional business development plans to expand Ursa Major’s presence in the federal government and DOD sectors.Â
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities, focusing on prime contracts, subcontracting opportunities, and strategic partnerships.Â
- Build and maintain relationships with key decision-makers, stakeholders, and potential partners within the federal government and defense industry.Â
- Lead the capture process for targeted opportunities, from opportunity identification through proposal submission and contract award.Â
- Manage growth efforts within budget to achieve AOP and 5YR bookings and sales objectives. Â
- Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders, including executive leadership, program managers, and technical teams, to develop winning strategies and proposals.Â
- Provide market intelligence and analysis to inform business strategy and decision-making.Â
- Represent Ursa Major at industry conferences, trade shows, and networking events to promote our capabilities and identify potential business opportunities.Â
- Monitor and analyze market trends, competitor activities, and customer needs to identify emerging opportunities and threats.Â
Required Qualifications:Â
- Proven track record of success in identifying, pursuing, and winning prime contracts and subcontracting opportunities.Â
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Engineering, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.Â
- Minimum of 15 years of experience in business development, sales, or marketing within the aerospace and defense industry, with a focus on federal government and DOD contracts.Â
- Strong understanding of the federal procurement process, including familiarity with FAR/DFARS regulations and contract vehicles (e.g., IDIQs, GWACs, BPAs).Â
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively interface with all levels of internal and external stakeholders.Â
- Strategic thinker with the ability to develop and execute business development plans to achieve organizational goals.Â
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.Â
- Willingness to travel as needed to meet AOP and 5YR bookings and sales objectives.Â
- This position requires that the employee be eligible and maintain eligibility for a Secret Clearance.
Benefits Include:
- Unlimited PTO - Vacation, Sick, Personal, and Bereavement
- Paid parental and Adoptive Leave
- Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance
- Tax Advantage Accounts (HSA/FSA)
- Employer Paid Short and Long Term Disability, Basic Life, AD&D
- Additional Benefit Options Including Voluntary Life, Emergency Medical Transport and Pet Insurance
- EAP ProgramÂ
- Retirement Savings Plan - Traditional 401(k) and a Roth 401(k)
- Company stock optionsÂ
NOTE: Research suggests that women and BIPOC individuals may self-select out of opportunities if they don't meet 100% of the job requirements. We encourage anyone who believes they have the skills and the drive necessary to succeed here to apply for this role.
