We're looking for a Senior Director of Engineering to join Brigit's leadership team. Reporting to the CTO, you'll develop a compelling and strategic technical vision and determine how engineering will contribute to achievement of the Company vision and goals. You know what it means to be a leader at a startup in the middle of hyper growth and take a deeply values-driven approach to your work. You're technical but you also have a strong interest in how engineering ties into the business. You achieve true professional bliss through building a strong engineering culture, attracting and developing top talent, and overseeing the overall health of a mission driven team. *This role will be based onsite in our NYC office.

What you’ll do:
  • Develop a compelling and strategic technical vision and determine how engineering will contribute to achievement of the company vision and goals

    • Help engineers understand why their contributions are valuable and how they tie to business impact

    • Deliver this to the team on a recurring basis and equip other managers to reinforce these messages

  • Collaborate with other department heads

    • Represent the Engineering team as a member of the Leadership Team

    • Communicate plans, challenges, and updates to other functional heads

    • Seek to understand challenges facing other departments or the company at large and provide input, advice and/or possible solutions

    • Nurture Engineering’s strong relationship/alignment with the Product team

    • Work closely with the People team to staff and retain our top talent

    • Support on the development of quarterly roadmaps, working closely with Product teams and the larger Leadership Team

  • Build & Manage a world-class Engineering organization

    • Plan and forecast the team’s capabilities/headcount to achieve current and future goals

    • Recruit at a world-class level, coordinate closely with people/recruiting team on hiring strategy

      • Lead the continuous improvement of interview process for ICs and managers alike 

      • Instill a hiring culture on the team, including adhering to the hiring process and maintaining a high bar

      • Build an Engineering employee brand

    • Manage / coach Engineering Managers and other senior engineers

    • Ensure everyone on the team has the resources and opportunities to learn and grow by creating opportunities as well as developing the framework for growth

  • Drive engineering team execution / delivery

    • Achieve results and hold teams accountable to deliver on their own goals

    • Regularly evaluate team structure to ensure the organization can move quickly and reorganize as necessary.

    • Devise methods to measure output and effectiveness and bottlenecks and experiment to optimize it

    • Inspire and motivate the team to strive for excellence

    • Develop and promote processes which ensure timely delivery of products

    • Fill in the blanks and verify that the engineering team has right tools, technology, and processes to build quality, scalable and reliable systems

Who you are:
  • 10+ years of experience building and leading engineering teams from 10 to 50+

  • Strong technical foundations, especially with microservices architectures

  • Experienced with consumer product management and the development lifecycle associated with it

  • You excel at analyzing deep technical problems and coaching teams to the best solutions

  • You have a bias towards action and experimentation

  • You have experience with all phases of technical recruiting - evangelism, sourcing, interviewing and closing 

  • You have exceptional communication skills with extensive experience collaborating with non-technical stakeholders 

  • Self-driven and tireless in the pursuit of high-quality results

The anticipated annual base salary for this position is $200,000 - $240,000. This range does not include any other compensation components or other benefits for which an individual may be eligible. The actual base salary offered depends on a variety of factors, which may include as applicable, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.
