About the Organization:
Lilly's Software Product Engineering (SPE) organization is focused on building core foundational software platforms to accelerate our ability to reach and support patients, digitally. This organization is powered by software engineering experts that solve challenging problems around patient engagement and drug discovery.
Software Engineering Platform team within the larger SPE organization is the group that is responsible for Lilly's Enterprise-DevSecOps platform, SaaS management, InnerSourcing and Developer experience and the future of the org is to build a composable engineering platform that can be leveraged across Lilly's value chain.

Responsibilities
What You'll Be Doing
We are looking for a Sr. Director of Engineering who will lead this group, shaping the future of Lilly's Software Engineering Platform by being both a product centric and engineering minded leader. You will be responsible for the platform that delivers our software and in ideation, design, and development of what's to come. We are exposed to a fast-paced engineering environment that is looking to transform engineering at Lilly.
What You Should Bring:
- Build, lead and manage distributed teams of high performance engineers
- Build engineering platform to deliver functional capabilities
- Grow and develop engineering talent across the organization
- Create an observability stack setting KPIs, SLAs & other effectiveness metrics using a data drive approach
- Set high quality standards for engineering across the organization
- Partner and collaborate across the organization
- Evaluate and evangelize new technologies to push our capabilities
- Manage a multitude of products at scale
- Willing to dive in and support technical challenges in the software and infrastructure space
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related technical field
- 8+ years working in the software engineering field
- 3+ years of proven technical leadership, key decision making and process re-engineering experience
Additional Skills:
- Track record of building and running customer facing bespoke applications/platforms with modern tech stack
- Experience with architectural patterns of distributed applications on cloud
- Experience in these or similar tools/tech - Shell, Bash, C++, Python, Java, Javascript, Golang, Rust, Git, Kubernetes, Chef, AWS, Azure, Splunk, etc.
- Strong understanding of SDLC, security as it relates to DevSecOps and Agile program management
- Web Security and Healthcare compliance experience is a plus
- Experience with Data Engineering/Platform is a big plus
- Effectively worked with senior leadership in setting strategic quarterly direction
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively across multiple business and technical teams
- Proactive, demonstrated ability to challenge the status quo and strong ability to drive peers and above to timely decisions
- Driven with a high level of intellectual curiosity and innovation
- Hands on technical experience in the software engineering
