Senior Director, Public Relations - (M7)
Job Description
The media relations leader will be a key member of the Investor Relations and Marketing Communications team which orchestrates Applied's external communications globally, working with all of our corporate executives, business leaders, communications functions, agencies and global teams.
The leader is responsible for creating and implementing our media relations strategy and programs to increase Applied's visibility and influence the perception of the company with media and other key external stakeholders. Works closely with internal executives and technology leaders to create unique and compelling narratives that align to strategic themes. Develops messaging and content that can be understood and appreciated by a broad audience. Partners with our global teams to regionalize news and stories for our sites across Europe and Asia.
Key responsibilities include:
- Working with internal experts to define, plan and execute Applied's media relations strategy.
- Driving media relations plans, budgets, initiatives and programs.
- Leading outreach to key technology and business press, and industry analysts to increase frequency of coverage of Applied in the media.
- Expanding Applied's reach by fostering relationships with new reporters and influencers.
- Launching Applied's new technologies and products through various communications channels, including press releases, blogs and social media.
- Generating stories and writing content for the Applied Blog
- Partnering with colleagues in the company's global business units, investor relations team, employee communications group and government affairs team.
- Guiding regional communications teams on external messaging and media programs.
- Giving direction to PR agency resources.
Skills and experience required:
- At least 15 years prior corporate PR/communications, PR agency and/or journalism experience
- Recent/relevant experience in the technology industry is a must. Semiconductor industry knowledge is strongly preferred.
- Strong writing skills.
- Ability to translate complex technologies into compelling stories for a variety of external audiences.
- Demonstrated track record of successful media campaigns/PR programs.
- Driven leader with the ability to work with and influence all levels of management and personnel.
- Team player.
- Demonstrated ability to take direct responsibility for program execution and delivery including
- hands-on involvement in deliverables.
- Strong decision making skills; ability to come up with creative solutions to challenges as they arise.
- Creative thinker; takes a new perspective on existing solutions and processes.
- Values people and develops the team.
- Energetic, motivated and passionate.
- Good sense of humor is a plus.
Position requires understanding of Applied Materials global Standards of Business Conduct and compliance with these standards at all times. This includes demonstrating the highest level of ethical conduct reflecting Applied Materials' core values.
