Senior Director, Recommendations and Machine Learning, Engineering

The Recommendations and Machine Learning Platform team is responsible for our key internal platforms used to power monetization, engagement and fraud use cases for all of Credit Karma utilizing all the data available in the Credit Karma ecosystem. 

As the Senior Director of Engineering, you will select, mentor, and develop the leaders and individual contributors of both the Recommendations as well as Machine Learning Platform departments. Reporting to the VP of engineering as a key member of Credit Karma's technical leadership team, you will be responsible for designing and leading a multi-year technical roadmap, managing technology investments that powers all aspects of our business.

• You'll work closely with senior engineering leadership and stakeholders to establish technology strategy
• You'll work directly with a team of talented leaders and technical individuals to accomplish the strategy
• You'll build strong cross-functional partnerships with senior leaders in product management, Data Science, Vertical engineering teams, and other platform engineering teams across the company, to align on a strategy and roadmap
• You'll strategically plan platform product roadmap to increase the productivity of the entire engineering team
• You'll proactively identify areas that can improve our architecture or technology in the evolving areas of Recommender Systems and Machine Learning Platforms
• You will push the productization of the platforms that allows scaling across a multitude of use cases in a secure reliable manner while allowing customer teams to innovate at high velocity
• You will be a thought leader for the entire company in the use of data and AI towards executing Credit Karma’s mission to enable financial progress for its entire member base. You will also be representing the company in various key industry forums in this area. 

• 15+ years of experience in software development
• 10+ years of experience leading highly effective software engineering teams
• 5+ years of experience in leading Recommendations / Machine Learning Platform teams at scale of millions of daily users
• Bachelor's Degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field (equivalent job experience is acceptable as well)
• Previously managed a minimum of 5+ direct reports with a team of 50+
• Minimum 8 years related people management experience

• Strong distributed systems and architecture knowledge with the ability to articulate complex technical solutions
• Experience with Machine learning algorithms and applications involving both success stories as well as failures
• Success in scaling organizations in an evolving industry
• Experience working directly with executive stakeholders
• Industry presence as a thought leader with well articulated views in the areas of Recommender systems / Machine Learning

That’s why we implemented role-based compensation, which ensures people who are in the same role receive the same pay with variations for geographic location only. It’s all part of a more comprehensive DEI strategy that helps level the playing field. The base salary range for this role is $348,000 to $390,000, plus equity and benefits.
