The Senior Director Strategic Initiatives provides strategy, decision support, organizational planning and operational leadership for special revenue cycle operations for all Cleveland Clinic entities. This includes decision support and planning on reimbursement, billing, collection issues related to value based payments, bundled and episodic billing and follow up, international and decentralized billing processes, provider integration and related project management. Also included is revenue assurance and contract compliance to ensure that all revenue is accounted for and accurate reimbursements are received as well as revenue integrity. In addition, provides strategic direction and oversight to ensure all of RCM mergers, acquisitions and divestitures are completed on time and aligned with Cleveland Clinic practices.

Job Details

Responsibilities:

  • Provides strategic direction, leads innovations and operational enhancements/standardization by leveraging best practices and technology to create best in class value based reimbursement process to support payment innovations and strategy, episodic / bundled billing and decentralized billing operations (including home care, international billing, dental and specialized billing services).
  • Develops a comprehensive revenue integrity and assurance strategy to ensure accurate capture of all services and revenue and assure that expected revenue is received from payer relationships, including charge master build and maintenance.
  • Responsible for provider integration into revenue cycle operations for new sites, acquisitions or strategic relationships.
  • Develops a comprehensive strategy to respond to current and future challenges presented by legislation, compliance, health care reform in order to monitor and address changing revenue cycle practices related to responsible areas.
  • Demonstrates strong strategic thinking, collaboration, leadership, problem solving and communication skills with all levels of the organization. Demonstrates a consultative approach when working with physician partners, institute leaders, community hospital leadership, Market and Network Services and vendors to develop efficient, patient- focused solutions.
  • Provides management supervision and direction for responsible areas.
  • Accountable for operation of designated center to include: budget preparation, salary administration, equipment purchases, and establishment of annual goals and objectives.
  • Assists billing operations to meet corporate goals for cash collections, net revenue comparisons, and billing expense.
  • Ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations governing rendered patient services and reimbursement.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in healthcare or business related field required.
  • Master's degree preferred.

Certifications:

  • None required.

Competencies (Complexity of Work):

  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Work Experience:

  • Ten or more years of progressive leadership and managerial experience in a large, multi-facility Hospital, Clinic or Group Practice Hospital (Physician led preferred).
  • Extensive knowledge of operational revenue cycle management, reimbursement methodologies and related legislation.
  • Ability to build engagement to drive effective results.
  • Demonstrated successful project management skills.
  • Must be highly organized and able to coordinate many simultaneous activities.
  • Professional presentation, consulting and communication skills.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
  • Ability to perform work in a stationary position for extended periods.
  • Ability to work with physical records or operate a computer or other office equipment.
  • In some locations, ability to travel throughout the hospital system.
  • In some locations ability to move up to 25 lbs.
