Generate:Biomedicines was founded in 2018 by Flagship Pioneering and has received nearly $700 million in funding, providing the resources to rapidly scale the organization. The Company has offices in Somerville and Andover, Massachusetts with over 275 employees.

The Role 

The Generate:Biomedicines People and Culture team is on a mission to create an environment where Generators from all backgrounds can thrive and are enabled to contribute their best. We are recruiting an exceptional Senior Director, Total Rewards to lead the strategy and execution of Compensation, Benefits, Equity, and other rewards frameworks. This is a critical leadership position on an innovative People and Culture team, and a role that is deeply integrated with other functional areas across P&C, Finance, Legal and the business at large.  

This job is for you if you are a strong people manager and committed team player focused on outcomes and impact, are deeply experienced in Total Rewards, and are a creative and strategic thinker. The ideal candidate is experienced at taking concepts through to execution by employing strong project management skills. In our fast paced, start-up environment, you will need to be comfortable building and evolving programs and processes.  You are a leader who is passionate about creating capacity by streamlining and automating work, leveraging digital tools to improve the employee experience, and providing exceptional service delivery and process execution. This role is based in our Somerville, MA office and requires an on-site presence 3+ days a week, with flexibility for hybrid work. 

Here’s How You’ll Contribute 

  • Working with the Chief People Officer an and other key stakeholders, lead the development and implementation of The Company's Total Rewards philosophy and programs, from design to execution. Collaborate with leaders across the organization on multi-year rewards strategy and plans 
  • Lead and develop a small team of Total Rewards experts, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence 
  • Prepare complex rewards recommendation and analysis materials for Board of Director meetings; strategically partner with and manage relationships with external vendors on executive compensation reviews, equity analysis and insights vital to the Board of Directors, Compensation Committee and other audiences 
  • Research and recommend evolution of our benefits and wellness packages.  
  • Guide pay equity studies, compliance, and pay for performance programs to meet and anticipate changing industry standards, remain competitive, and meet the evolving needs of Generators 
  • Collaborate with stakeholders within and outside of People and Culture to develop strategies, programs and policies that continually elevate the team’s service delivery and impact 
  • Own the project to develop job family architectures, career frameworks, leveling and associated rewards structures 
  • Clearly communicate company policies and ensure they’re administered in compliance with all federal and state laws/regulations  

The Ideal Candidate Will Have 

  • 15+ years’ experience leading across the various domains of Total Rewards in biotech/life sciences and/ or technology organizations, with progressive responsibility across compensation, benefits, and LTI/equity plan design and administration. 
  • A combination of experience in both high-growth and more established organizations 
  • Experience in both private and public company Total Rewards environments  
  • Demonstrated ability to build capabilities in a fast-paced environment with evolving infrastructure 
  • Exceptional skills in prioritization, managing multiple projects, and fostering effective collaboration 
  • Expertise developing and delivering communications that help Generators understand the value of their total rewards and other benefits 
  • B.A. or B.S. degree in Human Resources, Business, or other relevant subject area preferred
