Fulcrum’s two lead programs in clinical development are losmapimod, a small molecule for the treatment of facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSHD) and pociredir, a small molecule designed to increase expression of fetal hemoglobin for the treatment of sickle cell disease.
Description
The Senior Director, Scientific Communications Lead will report to the SVP of Medical Affairs. This leader will play an integral role in supporting the Fulcrum portfolio including in the neuromuscular and hematology space. He/she will be responsible for creating and executing the medical affairs publication and scientific communications strategy and develop the scientific communications plan which includes the scientific platform, medical education plan, evidence generation and publications/congress plan to achieve both corporate and medical affairs goals. As an internal medical affairs resource, this individual will bring or develop subject matter expertise in FSHD and sickle cell disease and engage with key internal stakeholders. He/she will oversee the creation and execution of the internal and external training program. This leader will partner cross-functionally with medical affairs therapeutic area leads, corporate affairs, clinical development, commercial, regulatory, and legal to develop strategic messaging and ensure alignment in the planning and execution of the medical affairs strategy and tactics. He/she will represent medical affairs on the program teams and other cross-functional teams to bring the voice of medical affairs to the strategic development of scientific communications. She/He will lead the medical affairs relevant interactions with alliance management, including creating and executing streamlined process for co-developing materials, sharing of assets and messaging etc. This leader will build out and manage the medical information (MI) capabilities at Fulcrum including onboarding the MI system, and hiring and managing the Director for MI.
Responsibilities
- Ensure the development and execution of publication, congress, training, scientific communication and medical education strategy across multiple platforms (conventional, digital, congress).
- Lead medical and scientific messaging for medical affairs and ensuring these messages are aligned across all forms of scientific, field and corporate messaging.
- Ensure that the scientific communication strategy and tactics are aligned with business strategies and regulatory guidelines
- Partner with and manage vendor(s) to lead the execution of the scientific communications plan overseeing medical writing agencies  including project initiation, execution, and closing; working with authors on submissions to congresses, journals etc, managing revisions, and budget.
- Lead medical affairs alliance management, working with internal and external stakeholders to develop and execute on streamlined communication and asset exchange.
- Develop and continuously maintain scientific and medical expertise in Fulcrum’s therapeutic areas
- Work with Corporate communication on messaging regarding scientific communication including studies, congresses and other relevant activities.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams/colleagues to develop evidence generation, publication and congress activitie to ensure insight sharing and alignment across teams, and efficient execution of strategies and tactics
- Lead the effort to implement insight-gathering and sharing activities informing key research and brand strategies.
- Guide medical research strategy to assess and address data gaps, including pre- clinical/non-clinical.
- Support market access efforts by developing appropriate medical materials and supportive documents and by providing medical expertise as required to internal and external stakeholders.
Qualifications           Â
- Must have an advanced medical degree (MD, DO, or equivalent), PharmD or PhD.
- Experience in rare diseases, launch experience, and vendor management experience are advantages.
- 8+ years of medical affairs experience in the Pharmaceutical/Biotechnology industry
- Proven success in a fast paced, entrepreneurial, smaller company environment is highly desired.
- Proven experience in working collaboratively and cross functionally across the enterprise field medical teams, clinical development, commercial, sales, market access and other key functions and demonstrated ability to inform and shape company/product strategy.
- Demonstrated understanding of laws, regulations, standards, and guidance governing the conduct of publications.
- Understanding of relevant GCP, ICH and FDA/ EMA regulations.

Location and Travel:
- This is a HQ based role with expectations of 50% time in-person in Cambridge, MA. Preference may be given to candidates in the Boston area
