Job Overview

The Senior Drills Engineer will be responsible for supporting the design, development, and production launch of mining and quarry blasthole Track Drills. This Role includes developing models and drawings, performing calculations to meet specification requirements, and assisting various cross-functional teams including Manufacturing, Quality, Purchasing, Product Support, Field Technicians, and others. The Senior Drills Engineer will be directly involved in machine builds and customer field follows, providing solutions to various issues.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Track Drill team member, evaluating designs and processes to meet machine performance goals
  • Design mechanical components and layouts
  • Create routed assemblies between main components
  • Addition of fabrication details to support drawings
  • Develop 3D CAD models and drawings in SolidWorks in compliance with GD&T and Komatsu Standards
  • Enter SolidWorks files into the PDM software
  • Work with suppliers on purchased part designs
  • Engineering systems that this person would be exposed to include the following: mechanical, electrical, sheet metal design, large, welded structures, hydraulic systems (open and closed circuit), etc.
  • Recommend technical solutions, participate in design reviews and projects
  • Interpret and apply customer requirements, industry standards and internal design/manufacturing standards to ensure designs meet customer requirements at an agreed upon level of performance and reliability
  • Identify/Resolve technical issues and questions within area of expertise with the support of various teams
  • Maintain open channels of communication both internal and external

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor degree in Engineering (Mechanical Discipline strongly preferred)
  • 8+ years of Mechanical Engineering experience
  • Prior Heavy Equipment design experience is a plus
  • Previous experience with SOLIDWORKS, GD&T, and a PDM software package
  • Prior experience with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) is preferred
  • Strong, effective communication skills with all Organizational Levels
  • High energy level and self-motivated approach
