Macroeconomics, Trade, andInvestment (MTI) Global Practice staff work across a widearray of Bank instruments and often lead or participate in the preparation ofStrategic Country Diagnostics for both the public and private sectors, as wellas other analytic tools such as Country Economic Memoranda Country PrivateSector Diagnostics, and Country Climate Development Reports. Knowledgeand learning is a central part of MTI's work focused on 9 thematic areas:

(a)macroeconomics;

(b) fiscal policy;

(c) growth;

(d) economic management inresource rich environments;

(e) macroeconomic modelling & statistics;

(f)trade and regional integration;

(g) competition policy;

(h) investment policyand promotion; and

(i) business regulation.

JobDuties and Responsibilities:

The incumbentwill report to the EFI Regional Director (RD). The position will offer exposureto a broad range of regional and EFI-wide strategic and operational issues aswell as opportunities to work with a wide range of management and staff acrossEFI and other units. The incumbent's responsibilities include but are notlimited to:

• Review and provide advice and support to the Regional Director on mattersrelating to EFI operations including in close coordination with regional EFIteams and staff from other GPs.

• Ensure that the Regional Director is briefed and informed of important issues- internal and external - in a timely manner. Effectively prioritizeissues for the Regional Director's attention either for information or action -providing input, analysis, and recommendations as appropriate. Review and/orwrite briefs, talking points, speeches for a wide spectrum of occasions.

• Lead or contribute to the analytical design, preparation and/or production ofa range of economic policy papers, policy notes and reports;

• Take-on additional ad-hoc projects of a strategic or operational nature asneeded either individually or as part of a team.

• Provide back-up support on operational reviews of project documents, SystemicCountry Diagnostics, etc. by helping to coordinate comments from teams and by providingcomments as needed.

Selection Criteria

• Fluency in spoken and written English and French is arequirement.

• Minimum of a Master's degree in Economics, public policy, politicalscience or related disciplines etc.

• Minimum of eight years of relevant professional experience for GG.

• Strong, demonstrated technical skills and familiarity with work of EFI, inparticular with issues related to macro-fiscal and growth, competitiveness,financial sector, public sector reform, etc).

• Strong operational and policy dialogue skills, as evidenced by a proven trackrecord in delivering high quality lending and advisory.

• Strong integrative skills in order to support the RD in articulating itsstrategic thinking on economic growth and poverty reduction and to articulate acoherent policy dialogue with the authorities across the region.

• Proven sense of initiative, results orientation, team work and leadershipqualities, and ability to work effectively across sectors/GPs.

• Strong communication skills, including the ability to speak persuasively andto present ideas clearly and concisely.

• Excellent conceptual and analytical skills. The capacity to respondquickly in a pragmatic manner to a wide range of issues.

• Outstanding interpersonal skills. Proven track record of workingeffectively across groups in a multicultural environment with staff at alllevels.
