Job Description

The Entertainment Publishing Group at Chronicle Books is looking for a Senior Editor who will further our mission to cultivate exceptional publishing that is instantly recognizable for its spirit and creativity - a passionate editor to originate a visual nonfiction list that resonates with consumers and increases our marketplace reach. This editor should come with vibrant ideas, commercial instincts, a collaborative point of view, strong publishing relationships, and a clear vision for what makes a book worthy of reading and sharing.

The Senior Editor will originate, acquire, and develop 10-12 high-profile titles in key areas of the list-notably, pop culture, media tie-ins, and visual nonfiction. They will monitor marketplace trends, develop and manage categories to enhance commercial success, and they will work with authors, artists, licensors, designers, overseas publishers and packagers to develop the best possible titles. Negotiating deals and maintaining author/agent relationships, guiding titles through the publishing process, working with publishing groups and advocating for innovative publishing within the publishing group will all be part of this high profile position.

Requirements

Applicants will need at least 5 years of acquisitions and project editor experience at a trade publishing house, deep contacts in the publishing and pop culture world, a demonstrated ability to acquire, develop, position, and edit a full list of strong performing books, and they will need to be strongly self-motivated with the ability to work independently as well as in a creative team.

Employees at Chronicle Books follow a flexible hybrid schedule of working a minimum of 2 days per week and up to 4 days per week in our San Francisco office, depending on project and business needs.

Hiring Salary Range: $75,000 - $86,000. This range represents the anticipated low and high end of the expected salary for this position and will be determined by factors including but not limited to: applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, and geographic location as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. This position is also eligible for our profit share plan.
