The EHS Specialist will coordinate the development and integration of accident/incident reduction activities, including but not limited to the following: energy conservation, waste management, ergonomics; behavior-based safety; standardized work; EHS training and awareness; EHS auditing; employee involvement; and a defined EHS leadership process to achieve EHS Excellence.

Responsibilities:

  • Implement the company, Business Unit and site-specific EHS initiatives as directed.
  • Provide leadership with implementing and integrating the EHS Management System requirements.
  • Submit EHS related incident information to the company as defined in the company EHS Management System.
  • Identify, and remain up-to-date, on all EHS compliance regulations and requirements that apply to the operation.
  • Supervise all EHS compliance activities to assure compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Includes the development and maintenance of compliance related plans, policies, procedures and documents.
  • Develop and administer applicable plant wide emergency and contingency response procedures.
  • Establish and oversee EHS programs/processes and EHS related committees/teams (ergonomics, accident and incident investigation, etc.).
  • Prepare and submit government reports as required by applicable regulations.
  • Supervise all waste management operations - handling, transport, treatment and manifesting of hazardous and non-hazardous wastes.
  • Supervise all Industrial Hygiene sampling and exposure abatement related activities.
  • Maintain ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and ISO 50001 certification/requirements and manage the sites EHS Management System.
  • Maintain the facility chemical management system that includes tracking of all chemicals used at the facility and the related Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
  • Work face-to-face with shop floor employees to promote and improve EHS.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Degree in Environmental and /or Safety Engineering and Management or closely related field
  • Four (4) to Five (5) years' experience in manufacturing environment with emphasis on safety/environmental management. Must have ability to work with minimal supervision and must be capable of leading EHS Function activities as directed.
  • Working knowledge in relation to developing processes and practices related to the following key areas: EHS System implementation; Behavior Based Safety; Environmental Compliance (air, water, waste); Ergonomics; Risk Assessment and Reduction; and Industrial Hygiene.
  • Experience in implementing and managing EHS Management System requirements and ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and ISO 50001 certification requirements.
  • Strong working knowledge and understanding of EHS compliance requirements that are applicable to the facility.
  • Strong working knowledge and understanding of Industrial Hygiene practices, procedures and data/analysis interpretation.
  • Strong organizational skills, analytical and problem solving skills, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Achieve the company Ergonomics subject matter expert proficiency.
