ABOUT THE ROLE
Our engineering organization is comprised of three primary departments: Current Product Engineering (CPE), New Product Engineering (NPE) and Product Validation. There are two groups within CPE, Customer Engineering and Sustaining Engineering.
The mission of the Sustaining Engineering group is design enhancement and optimization for our current product platforms that span across virtually all stages of the vehicle lifecycle. This group develops a broad applications of new customer option content, cost, and performance improvements, and drives resolution of technical Supply Chain, Production, Field, and Aftermarket needs.
We are looking for an experience Senior Engineer I or II to design, trouble shoot, and problem solve the designing, manufacturing and operation of transit buses and their sub-systems. A successful candidate will have direct influence to optimize the vehicle, sub-systems, and parts. This position will be part of the Sustaining Electrical Engineering Group and report to the Electrical Engineering Supervisor but may also get direction/guidance from the Director of Engineering Sustaining.
TECHNICAL FOCUS AREA
For (Sustaining Electrical)
The mission of the Sustaining Engineering team is to develop new option content, cost & performance improvements to the current product, and drive resolution of technical Supply Chain, Production, and Field issues. You will have an emphasis on providing robust, service-friendly, and cost-conscious electrical designs for vehicles with low voltage (12/24VDC) and high-voltage (600VDC, 240/480VAC) systems. This position will test your troubleshooting capabilities to efficiently drive to root cause and your ability to identify & implement permanent corrective actions. Familiarity with vehicles and/or industrial control systems is a plus.
IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL
- Support manufacturing, purchasing, field service and other internal customers
- Design and document solutions for components and modules, taking project guidelines into consideration (e.g., safety, quality, cost, and weight)
- Perform hands on troubleshooting of vehicle systems
- Support a team of Production Support Technicians
- Lead Root Cause Analysis
- Create and maintain Bill of Materials (BOM) using a ERP system along with all project documentation using MS Office suite
- Use CAD modeling software to create components, harnesses, assemblies, and engineering drawings for manufacturing
- Review CAD models and drawings at the component and sub system level to ensure their integrity
- Develop and maintain the technical specification for desired performance at the sub system level
Additionally, at the Senior Engineer II Level, you will:
- Provide technical guidance to engineers at systems level
- Work with internal and external business partners/vendors to drive key technology insights as well derive implications for vehicle projects
- Act as the project technical leader to gather and understand all related information for technical advancements
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- BS in Electrical Engineering
- Minimum 5 years of engineering experience
- Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot automotive or heavy-duty vehicles electrical systems
- Familiarity with automotive components such as circuit breakers, relays, and wiring, manufactured in standards such as SAE, NFPA, FMVSS, etc.
- Experience using data – loggers and multi-meters for diagnostics
- Experienced with high voltage and low voltage system design and necessary safety guidelines
- Experienced in generating harnesses and electrical schematic using CAD software
Additionally, at the Senior Engineer II Level:
- Minimum 8 years of engineering experience
- Advanced communication regarding vehicle projects to internal/external customers and partners
- Full Cycle management and execution of prototype builds
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Ability to lift 25 lbs.
- Regularly required to sit, stand, and walk and occasionally kneel or squat
- Limited travel may be required on an infrequent bases to assist with problem resolution
- Standard start time: 6:00 AM (negotiable)
EXPECTED COMPENSATION
$75,000 - $275,000/annual salary + premium benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job classification, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
