The pandemic has highlighted how important telecoms networks are to society. Nokia's Network Infrastructure group is at the heart of a revolution to bring more and faster network capacity to people worldwide through our ambition, innovation, and technical expertise.

The Advanced Photonics Team designs high-performance coherent optical front-end modules based on silicon photonic integrated circuits, broadband Silicon Germanium integrated circuits and DSPs, within high-frequency packaging. The mission of the team is to bring these devices from an applied research stage all the way to volume production. As a member of our Advanced Photonics team, you'll be working alongside experienced technical team leads and designers with strong records of delivering innovative photonic device designs into production.

What you will learn and contribute to

R&D Architecture comprises capturing business, operational, technical, and non-functional requirements from the stakeholders and the delivery of a product architecture to meet the defined needs and constraints. It includes the processing of use-case and feature requirements into conceptual models, operational scenarios, technical requirements, and functional descriptions. R&D Architecture has a broad system- and product-architecture competence as well as an understanding of the full ecosystem.

As a Senior Electro-Optics Architect you are responsible to design the architecture of Nokia fiber-optic transmitter-, receiver- or transceiver-products. You design, define, and guide implementation of hardware and control firmware requirements from customer requirements and strategic business/technology objectives while considering technical limits and tradeoffs of state-of-the-art transceiver subcomponents. You coordinate the design of components and their integration into a full system. You help guide the strategic vision and ensure performance and quality of final product.

As part of our team, you will:• Identify stakeholders involved and coordinate the product lifecycle activities of product development. • Capture and manage the functional and non-functional requirements. • Develop and manage the component-level design of the product; translate product-level specs into specs for each subcomponent (e.g., PIC, TIA and/or Driver).• Research, design, plan, develop and evaluate new advanced electro-optic technologies for translating customer requirements or strategic business objectives into final product design.• Design, define and implement hardware systems requirements for customers and/or prepare studies and analyze existing systems. • Coordinate design of components and integration of full Electro-Optical (EO) system, including ensuring the components can be tested, manufactured, and assembled.• Serve as a professional leader for other staff, often the most senior specialist in a team, who serves as best practice resource within own organizational unit and is recognized as an expert in the professional area of the business.

Your skills and experience

You have
• An advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, Operations Research, or Mathematics and at least 7+ years experience in high-speed electro-optic hardware design, including an advanced understanding of Fiber-Optic Communication• System Architecture Design and Systems Thinking• Familiarity with Network/Fiberoptic communication standards and specifications• General understanding of Industry, Market, Competitors and Technology

It would be nice if you had:• Understanding of signal processing technologies and how to model/simulate them• Experience with silicon-photonic technology, especially design work• Understanding of signal integrity of circuitry for high-speed signals• Experience with HFSS analysis tool (from Ansys)• Experience with Cadence design and layout tools
