THE ROLE 

We are building cutting-edge, high visibility software and we’re looking for extremely talented software engineers who would help reshape the future of Sotheby’s through exceptional engineering practices, software development, and design.

You have a passion for crafting intuitive and delightful user experiences, and wish to tackle hard product and engineering challenges working in concert with smart people. You have the ability to take on complex problems, learn quickly, iterate, and persist towards a good solution. You have an eye for details and are motivated to study customer needs and enable their success through products they will love.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work collaboratively with a team of software engineers to craft user-facing web features that art and design lovers will love
  • Work closely with Product Managers Designers, engineers, and other stakeholders to test and ship features following Agile practices
  • Build, optimize, and maintain elegant abstractions, shareable libraries, and robust APIs, internal and consumer-facing tools
  • Eager to learn new technologies and open to learning from others
  • Create amazing intuitive experiences that remove pain points for our users
  • Provide mentorship for team members and help them grow in their technical responsibilities
  • Thrive in a collaborative fully remote environment

IDEAL EXPERIENCE & COMPETENCIES

  • 4+ years of relevant software development experience building, optimizing, and scaling responsive web applications
  • Experience with one or more general purpose programming languages (e.g. JavaScript, Python, Java, Go, Scala)
  • Experience with one or more front-end web frameworks such as React, Vue, or Angular
  • Familiar with software best practices such as unit testing and code reviews, design, and documentation
  • Experience working with RDBMS such as Postgres or MySQL and writing migrations
  • Working knowledge of GraphQL and gRPC
  • Experience in localization, i18n, and accessibility
  • Experience with DevOps and application deployment models (Kubernetes, Docker, AWS/GCP/Azure)
  • Contributions to open source projects

The proposed base salary for this position ranges from $138,000-$180,000. In addition to base salary successful candidates are eligible to receive a discretionary bonus, as well as a competitive benefits package. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, licensure or certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered.
