Senior Engineer, Build Team

On the Build team, we work on all digital products here at Kajabi which currently includes courses, coaching, podcasts, communities and much more to come this year. We offer a flexible working schedule and are open to remote and local applicants.

We are a highly collaborative, engaged and customer-focused team here at Kajabi. We like to work in a Shape Up fashion with customer delight at the top of mind. We’re looking for experienced engineers to join our growing team and help us to create & improve the tools that our customers use to build their businesses. 

The things you and your team will be working on are at the core of the Kajabi platform. They will be heavily used, marketed, and buzzed about amongst the company and our enthusiastic customer base. Our customers have created almost 1 million digital products for many millions of members and they rely on us to provide a rich experience to keep their members excited and coming back for more.

The ideal candidate is someone who has worked in a high-performing and flexible team. We work collaboratively, yet autonomously, within cross-functional teams engaging product and design along the way. Our work cadence is 6-week cycles (via Shape Up) which means that on any given cycle, you could be paired up with 2-3 engineers working on any number of things within our Creator Tools domain - courses, communities, coaching, podcasts, etc. Engineers on the team enjoy the variety of work and people the cycles provide. 

You will report to an Engineering Manager on the Build team.

The Impact you will make

• Write clean, simple, well-tested code that is easy to understand and maintain.
• Review code written by other developers both in and outside of your team.
• Create reusable and maintainable systems and abstractions.
• Serve as a point-person for one week as part of our rotating on-call schedule.
• Provide technical leadership, feedback and mentorship to mid-level and junior developers.
• Work with a Product Manager, Product Designer and other engineers to build products and features according to our product principles - think big, start small, ship to learn, give our customers superpowers.
• Occasionally participate in customer feedback interviews lead by the product manager or designer to gain insights into our customer's experience of the product.

Attributes for Success

• Experience with Ruby on Rails and object oriented programming languages such as Java, C#, Python, Golang of other languages as well as SQL and NoSQl Databases.
• Experience building out various APIs protocols/architectures from the ground up (REST, GraphQL).
• Deployment and operational experience using cloud platforms like AWS or Heroku.
• You are a believer in SOLID principles, automated testing, CI/CD, and keeping our platform operationally excellent.
• You feel confident architecting features without much help and are able to get unstuck most of the time.
• You’ve shipped, operated, scaled, and supported applications in a high traffic SaaS environment.
• You’re a software engineer who cares deeply about delivering operationally excellent systems through meticulous attention to details.
• You take a thoughtful approach to decision making; knowing when to move fast and when to do things right.
• You have a results-oriented approach, with an inherent ability to solve complex problems and deliver a high-quality product.
• You have some experience providing technical leadership and guidance.
• You have experience mentoring or teaching other developers.
• You are comfortable working in a fully remote team.
• You are comfortable working with git and Github.
• You have experience with an object oriented programming language such as Ruby, Java, C#, Python, Golang, as well as SQL and NoSQL databases.

Bonus if you have experience with

• DevOps Experience: Deployment and operation on platforms like AWS or Azure.
• Experience with Shape Up.
