Senior Engineer (DNS)

We are looking for an experienced DNS engineer who can design and implement highly available infrastructure at scale. The right candidate will be working across engineering and infrastructure teams to deliver innovative solutions to real world problems our customers face. Reporting to the Engineering Manager of Datacenter Core Services, the Senior Engineer will participate and lead the design, development and deployment of new services and maintain existing infrastructure and products.
What You'll Be Doing:

• Support internal/external DNS services and work to develop automation to reduce operational overhead.
• Improve tooling and processes for managing our global high-traffic DNS infrastructures
• Act as a key member of a cross-functional team responsible for scaling DNS at DO
• Participate in the design and implementation of architectural changes and new features
• Work with teams across DO to understand their DNS needs and develop solutions

What You'll Add to DigitalOcean:

• Significant experience with DNS server software (e.g. BIND, PowerDNS, CoreDNS, Unbound)
• Familiarity with DNS architecture both authoritative and recursive
• Experience with DNS monitoring and metrics collection
• Understanding of the operational issues with large-scale DNS infrastructure
• Experience with automation frameworks (e.g. Chef, Ansible)
• Experience with Linux system administration, including firewall configuration, network setup and basic performance tuning
• Familiarity with the use of anycast in scaling DNS
• Bonus: Experience with MySQL
