SUMMARY OF DUTIES

Performs intensive and diversified technical work such as the design, manufacture and operation of structures, machines and systems while completing projects in broad areas of assignment.

The senior process engineer oversees all the diffusion, LPCVD deposition, RIE etching, and sputtering processes in the Merit Sensor Wafer Fab. Merit Sensors design and manufacture MEMS piezoresistive pressure sensors on the silicon wafer.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS PERFORMED

1. Makes decisions on technical problems and methods which require the use of advanced techniques and the modification and extension of theories, precepts, and practices of the field and related sciences and disciplines.
2. Receives supervision and guidance relating only to overall objectives, new concepts, and policy matters, while supervisor is consulted only concerning unusual problems and developments.
3. May supervise the work of technicians or others who assist in specific assignments and work jointly with other engineers. 
4. Works on special projects, writes ECN's, and creates prototypes.
5. Performs other related duties and tasks as required.

SUMMARY OF MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • A bachelor’s degree in engineering, with a preference for a degree in chemical engineering, although all engineering disciplines are eligible.
  • Five years of experience in diffusion and LPCVD Nitride and Polysilicon deposition processes.
  • Three years of experience in RIE and Sputtering processes and understanding of the semiconductor manufacturing process flow.
  • Experience using metrology tools to measure silicon oxide, silicon nitride, polysilicon, and thin metal film layer thicknesses.
  • Utilizing SPC to monitor processes and optimize them within control limits and the performance of the equipment.
  • Acting as an area expert in processes and equipment and working with the maintenance team and vendors to resolve tool issues.
  • Self-motivated to initiate actions to prevent and resolve process excursions, with the ability to multi-task.
  • Responsible for continuous improvement projects to improve yield, efficiency, and scrap reduction.
  • Understanding of DOE, 8D approach, and disposition of non-conformance products.
  • Experience using statistical software such as JMP, Minitab
  • Create and revise training and operation documentation, including writing protocols and reports to qualify new processes and training operators and technicians on new and updated process specifications.
