Senior Engineer - Quantum Simulation
Job Description
IonQ is developing the world's most powerful full-stack quantum computer based on trapped-ion technology. We are pushing past the limits of classical physics and current supercomputing technology to unlock a new era of computing. Quantum computing has the potential to impact every area of human society for the better. IonQ’s computers will soon redefine industries like medicine, materials science, finance, artificial intelligence, machine learning, cryptography, and more. IonQ is at the forefront of this technological revolution.
Â
We are looking for a Senior Quantum Simulation Engineer. As a Simulation Engineer, you’ll be part of a cross-functional team whose mission is to lead IonQ on its journey to build the world’s best quantum computers to solve the world’s most complex problems. This job will be based out of either our Seattle, WA office or our Toronto, Canada office.
In this role, you will primarily perform gate level simulations of the trapped ion quantum computer. You will help benchmark and characterize the system performance against various noise models. You will work with the engineering team to perform gate level analysis of the current and next generation quantum systems and integration of the simulation software with the rest of the software stack. You will also help build, maintain and test software infrastructure necessary to enable circuit simulations at scale.Â
Responsibilities:Â
- Simulate and analyze circuits to examine performance against various noise models
- Benchmark and evaluate performances of various circuit simulation algorithmsÂ
- Document and communicate technical findings to the engineering team
- Integrate gate level simulation with other software in the simulation stack
- Contribute to the automation, testing and parallelization of the simulation workflowÂ
- Contribute to develop methods and algorithms for gate level simulation of quantum circuits
You’d be a good fit with:Â
- PhD in Quantum Physics, Engineering or a related field
- Experience in quantum computing simulations either at the gate or pulse level
- Python programming for scientific computing
You’d be a great fit with:Â
- 2+ years of experience in a professional setting
- Experience running large scale simulations on CPU/GPU clusters
- Experience with open quantum systems and quantum error correction/mitigation algorithms
- Experience with many-body physics and algorithms, matrix product state and tensor network methods
- Experience with parallel programming in Python/C++
- Experience with AMO physics and trapped ion systems
- Experience with scripting and automating workflows in high-performance computing environments
Our HQ is located in College Park, Maryland and we are a 15 minute metro ride from Washington DC. We have also recently announced our new manufacturing and production facility in the Seattle, Washington area. We are actively building out teams in the Washington D.C., Seattle and Toronto metro areas and will want to locate you in one of these geographies. However, IonQ will be expanding into additional geographies both domestically and internationally so don’t let this stop you from applying.
