Senior Engineer - Research Engineer

Verisign is looking to hire a research programmer who loves technology and is always curious to know what's going on in the internet world. In this role, you will be responsible for conducting research, publishing research papers including measurement studies, contribute to developing IETF standards, developing innovative proof-of-concept applications using the latest open-source technologies and contribute to open source community. You will contribute to research towards, Post-Quantum DNS algorithms, new use cases for DNS domains e.g. web3 applications and DNS encryption and represent Verisign at external events and conferences.
Responsibilities include:
- Develop 'Proof of concept' software applications based on research findings and contribute to opensource community
- Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders on software applications design, development and technology assessment
- Works with stakeholders to define requirements specifications. Participates in requirements gathering, design, code and test plan reviews
- Collaborates on authoring research papers, blogs, Internet standards and patents filings driven by research findings
Requirements include:
- Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related technical field
- Masters Degree or PhD in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related technical field preferred
- 10+ years Software development experience
- Advanced experience working in Linux, Software Design Patterns and Data Structures, and DevOps, C/C++, Java
- Experience with DNS, DNSSEC, TLS, HTTPS, Ethereum, Bitcoin preferred
This position is based in our Reston, VA office and offers a flexible, hybrid work schedule
The pay range is $160,300 - $216,900.
The anticipated annual base salary range for this position is noted above, however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience. Verisign offers a discretionary bonus which is based on individual and company performance, and certain roles may be eligible for discretionary stock awards.
