As our Senior Engineer, RF Engineering, you’ll play a key role in designing, maintaining, operating, integrating and testing the company’s owned & operated DAS networks to ensure they perform to Carrier and Boingo standards.  You’ll own the design process of multiple projects; managing in-house and third-party RF network designs, testing and documentation processes.  This position requires a diversified technical skill set and a strong understanding of cellular 3G and 4G network technologies, particularly with in-building systems.  Because we own and operate our networks, you’ll share responsibility for 24-hour support and break-fix work with the DAS Team.  At Boingo, our success is built on great team work across various functional boundaries.

Responsibilities

• Design and design management of in-building multi-carrier wireless networks in airports, tunnels, stadiums, arenas, campuses, and other large venues managed by Boingo Wireless – including multicarrier CDMA, GSM, UMTS, and LTE systems.
• Support project managers with integration and testing of in-building wireless networks and ensure documentation and monitoring of the networks are completed to internal, project-specific, and wireless Carrier standards.
• Coordination and delivery of technical designs, design reviews, RF testing, design documentation, etc., with Carrier technical and venue technical personnel
• iBwave design process management for assigned projects, whether internal or through third-party vendors
• Assist Boingo NOC, field operations managers, and carrier partner technical support staff to troubleshoot and repair network related issues within the wireless networks as a third-tier support specialist. 

Requirements

• 5+ years’ experience in telecommunications
• Working knowledge of 3G-4G wireless protocols (e.g., GSM, EVDO, UMTS, LTE-MIMO, etc.)
• Working knowledge of in-building wireless Distributed Antenna Systems.
• At least Level 1 certification in iBwave
• Capable of discussing and writing about technical subjects with diverse audiences.
• Able to pass a 10-year TSA/FBI background check (for airport security badging purposes).
• Ability to sort and resolve complex technical problems
• Knowledge of and ability to perform engineering computations and calculations.
• Computer proficiency with MS Office and related software.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment required
• Ability to be a team player and/or work independently required
• Ability to take initiative and be proactive
• Bachelor of Science in engineering related field.

Nice to haves

• Familiarity with cellular network test software packages such as Ericsson TEMS or similar.
• Level 2 and 3 Certification in IBwave design tool.
• Experience with DAS Vendors and vendor equipment, such as Commscope, TE, and Mobile Access in-building products
• Working knowledge of software documentation packages such as AutoCAD and Visio
• Experience working in airports, stadiums, and/or arenas
• Experience with construction processes and reading and understanding blue prints
