About the Role
We are looking for a senior level engineer with experience in the web ecosystem. You’ll contribute to a core team in an organization that values empathy, collaboration, transparency, diversity, and learning. You will report to Soraya Dib and work with engineers, designers, and product managers.

When news breaks, readers from around the world turn to The New York Times for coverage. Every day, journalists at The New York Times report more than 200 stories from dozens of countries around the world. Our journalism is consumed by over 100 million users each month.
Our services power the presentation for 100% of our News content for nytimes.com and related mobile app webviews. Our internal platform includes a core monorepo, common components and libraries, observability and performance tooling, CI/CD, test automation framework, infrastructure, and security.
What You’ll Do
- Work on high scale, high visibility projects developing systems using industry best practices.
- Collaborate with the team to inform prioritization and long-term roadmap and shape our engineering culture.
- Provide clear and actionable feedback through pairing, design review, and code reviews.
Basic Qualifications
- 5+ years of full stack web development.
- Experience with the JS/TS ecosystem, including:
- one or more Node.js frameworks (we use Express)
- one or more frontend JavaScript frameworks/libraries (we use React SSR)
- JS build tooling such as yarn, pnpm, turborepo, lerna, nx, webpack, or babel
- Experience building, operating, and monitoring web systems in GCP or AWS.

This role may require limited on-call hours. An on-call schedule will be determined when you join, taking into account team size and other variables.
