Mission Overview & Responsibilities: 

The Data Governance and Infrastructure team is a remote-friendly team responsible for building the platform tooling delivering the capabilities of ingestion, transformation, orchestration, infrastructure and data management, observability and governance. Our platform enables data producers and data consumers to reliably share their operational data and create high-quality domain-data products. 

The Senior Engineering Manager will lead a team focused on building our domain-data platform and driving partnerships with engineering teams across NYT to use our platform. You will work with engineers and cross-functional partners to develop and execute a multi-year technical strategy and roadmap for our domain-data platform.

What You'll Do:

  • You will manage a team of 10 engineers, ranging in experience levels

  • You will foster a healthy, inclusive environment that boosts productivity, collaboration, creativity, and technical growth for engineers (AR Reword with growth sooner)

  • You will represent the work of domain-data partnerships to senior leaders and stakeholders of our strategy

  • You will be accountable to the performance of engineers who will report into you and the hiring of new engineers who will enhance your team

  • You will collaborate with Data Architecture and domain-data teams to devise infrastructure, workflows and tooling to enable them to scale best practices for developing data products using platform tooling

  • You will work with other managers and leads throughout the organization to drive the adoption of the Domain Data strategy

  • You will manage the delivery of privacy-related requests from Legal

  • You will report to the Director of Engineering for Domain Data

Basic Qualifications: 

  • 3+ years of experience as an Engineering Manager, leading platform or data infrastructure teams

  • 4+ years of experience building cloud-native infrastructure and DataOps tooling in either AWS or GCP environments

  • Experience demonstrating DataOps best practices and promoting solid Agile software development practices in a self-organizing team

  • Demonstrated experience driving delivery for complex, cross-functional initiatives

  • Experience developing new ways of solving technical and project-delivery workflows through broader pattern recognition

  • Experience working with backend and feature teams to ensure the adoption of platform tooling

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with modern-data-stack tools and services such as dbt and FiveTran

  • Passionate about data-management and governance/privacy best practices

  • Experience with GitOps and CI/CD pipeline and build tools such as Drone, Argo

  • Demonstrated experience advocating and facilitating continuous improvement and learning

The annual base pay range for this role is between:
$176,000$193,000 USD
