Senior Engineering Manager - UI Foundation

The Community You Will Join:

The UI Foundation team is responsible for empowering designers and engineers to create industry-leading innovative and inclusive user experiences (UX) for Airbnb’s Guests and Hosts. We offer capabilities and domain expertise in design systems notably Airbnb's Design Language System (DLS) motion innovation such as Lottie digital accessibility and tooling to accelerate UI development.

As a central cross-platform team consisting of Android iOS and Web engineers we partner closely with Product Engineering Design and Product teams. We are involved in all stages of the product development lifecycle from conceptualization to launch. Check out some of the team’s recent contributions:

• Rethinking Text Resizing on Web

• Animations: Bringing the Host Passport to Life on iOS

• Making Airbnb’s Android app more accessible

The Difference You Will Make:

This is a rare opportunity to lead a team with deep historical impact at Airbnb that has evolved to enable complex motion designs accessible UX at scale and tooling that increasingly leverages AI. As the leader of the UI Foundation team you will establish a vision that’s unique to Airbnb and does not follow typical industry conventions.

• Establish a long-term vision and charter for the UI Foundation team that is aligned with Airbnb’s mission.

• Manage the team’s roadmap—establish a sustainable planning process balance present and future investments prioritize projects drive execution and ensure high-quality delivery.

• Foster an inclusive team culture and environment that encourages collaboration technical excellence and innovation via calculated risks and product mindset.

• Level up leadership (managers and technical leads) within the team through effective hiring coaching and feedback.

• Strengthen the team’s partnerships with key stakeholders in Engineering Design and Product to make ambitious product feature concepts a reality.

Your Expertise:

• 12+ years of industry experience with 5+ years of people management experience including experience managing managers.

• Success in developing managers and senior technical leads to perform at their fullest potential.

• Track record of effective change management and cross-functional stakeholder influence.

• Proven experience leading consumer product and/or platform engineering teams.

• Past hands-on experience with iOS Android and/or Frontend Web UI development

Your Location:

This position is US - Remote Eligible. The role may include occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites as agreed to with your manager.
