Job Description

The Sony Music Global Podcasting Team is looking for a Senior Finance Analyst to support the team in various finance and accounting related functions.  The Team supports the creative vision of our various ventures and creative partners.  The team operates in a high-paced environment with many opportunities for learning on the job. 

As a member of the Finance and Accounting team, the Senior Finance Analyst should be attentive to detail, organized, feel comfortable asking questions and learning in a fast-paced environment. They should be a self-starter and self-manage while also knowing when to escalate.  They must feel comfortable communicating with many people on the Podcast Team, our podcasting partners, senior management, and other Sony Music business units.

The ideal candidate will provide support in day-to-day activities as well as participate in over-arching financial analyses supporting decision-making of upper management. The candidate should be comfortable working in Excel and finding ways of automating data & processes. They should be skilled in presenting information in a creative manner and comfortable with PowerPoint. The role will be demanding, as there will be multiple projects in various stages of the creative process which finance must track and report on.  We will look to the candidate to ensure that all aspects of the finance process are completed timely & efficiently including but not limited to – day-to-day activities such as vendor set up and payment processing, monthly journal entry/accounting tasks and reporting, and ad hoc analyses & projects.

What you'll do:
  • Prepare and assist with weekly and monthly reporting requirements including financial reports for internal and external partners.
  • Accumulate and analyze data to process journal entries for the monthly close.
  • Participate in monthly production update meetings and provide concise financial updates in preparation for each.
  • Maintain records of financial commitments after reviewing pertinent contracts. Initiate payment requests as they become due via collaboration with the Accounts Payable team and incorporating appropriate financial coding.
  • Obtain necessary documentation from potential vendors and initiate the Vendor Set up process in collaboration with the Accounts Payable team.
  • Initiate invoices to clients and work with the Accounts Receivable team to track payment status.
  • Initiate and create purchase orders in the purchasing system as needed.
  • Assist with additional ad hoc special projects and analyses.
  • Stay up to date on accounting standards.
Who you are:
  • 2+ years of experience in financial analysis, accounting, or a related field.
  • Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
  • Strong understanding of basic accounting principles.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to juggle many tasks.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to find solutions using critical thinking.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office especially Excel & PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work independently but asks questions when guidance is needed.
  • Team player, enthusiastic and eager to learn and grow.
  • Exposure to or understanding of SAP & BPC preferred.

The anticipated annual base salary does not include any other compensation components or other benefits that an individual may be eligible for.  The actual base salary offered depends on a variety of factors, which may include as applicable, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.
