Job Description
The Senior Financial Analyst is responsible for financial analysis and management of a complex book of group health benefits business. The Senior Financial Analyst will advise clients on benefit design, legislative requirements, alternate financial arrangements, industry trends and more. They will monitor trends and identify the need for new or revised procedures and training for peers.
Experience and Skills
- Work closely with Gregory & Appel Consultants and Department Leaders in the design, financing, pricing and evaluations of client companies' health and welfare programs.
- Review current plan designs, contribution strategies and funding arrangements to support client short- and long-term goals and financial needs.
- Design, develop and analyze reports to measure utilization, cost data, clinical outcomes, network performance and methodology levers for existing and prospective clients.
- Work collaboratively with key members of the organization on special projects including but not limited to selection and operation of an efficient data warehouse infrastructure and maintenance; plan benchmarking; healthcare reform financial related tools; client health plan intelligence reporting, etc.
Additional Responsibilities
- Meet with clients in person to provide consultative financial analysis expertise.
- Analyze carrier/TPA renewals and plan experience to estimate future plan costs
- Perform cost projections using client and enrollment data
- Develop employee contributions strategies to meet employer cost objectives
- Assist in the development of customized pricing and valuation models
- Utilize project management and consulting skills with internal and external customers
- Provide peer review of analysis and deliverable for co-workers
- Collaborate with Gregory & Appel Consultants to understand client analytic objectives and business needs to develop reports, trend projections, and other analysis projects. Meets monthly, quarterly and annual deadlines to produce client reports.
- Work with manager and team members to select, develop, deliver and operate components of a
- data warehouse environment for production and development systems. Define, plan and execute detailed data analysis to support data warehouse projects. Development, delivery and operation of side system functions associated with the data warehouse (i.e., net revenue calculations, etc.).
- Identify areas of improvement/training needs and provide recommendations to manager for efficiency improvement
- Collaborate with Benefits Team to support client needs as it relates to health care reform, i.e., pay or play; client analysis of claims data; trend projections; renewal analysis support, network performance, etc.
