Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the BUMG Team Lead Financial Operations, this position is responsible for the analysis of the financial statements, preparation of the monthly/quarterly Board Reports, review of monthly income statements, and ad hoc analysis as necessary. This position will work with other internal Finance team members, Department Administrators, and internal/external customers. The Senior Financial Analyst assists with the coordination of various projects related to the BUMG finance to support the analysis of financial statements.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:
- Assists in the oversight of the consolidation of a $270M operating budget, forecasting and multi-year planning and analysis for twenty-one multi-specialty business units, one corporate business unit, including identifying variance explanations, trends, projections, and reporting overall performance, new initiatives and key drivers to the Senior Director of Finance and Finance Manager.
- Assist in answering questions regarding physician and administrative cost centers, monthly interfaces, and standard/non-standard journal entries.
- Analyze monthly and quarterly data to identify trends and issues. In conjunction with BUMG Accounting team, investigate problems and implement solutions. Develops, monitors, reports and analyzes benchmarks and key indicators for financial performance, income statements at the physician, division and department level. Use detail analysis to identify potential issues and resolve issues in a timely fashion.
- Supports the development and maintenance of the annual operating budget including, but not limited to, budget package preparation and ultimate completion using both internal and external systems.
- Work closely with various levels of management and other finance functions to understand revenue related issues, expense trends and other issues concerning the financial analysis, financial reporting and budget development for BUMG.
- Ability to develop a thorough understanding of the business intelligence tools utilized by the organization and assists in the facilitating the optimization of the tools managed by BUMG Finance.
- Reviews and documents current workflow of the BUMG business processes. Provides recommendations for process improvement in finance/accounting functions.
- Propose and maintain policies and procedures to enhance the efficient and cost effective operation of the Departments and BUMG finance function.
- Act as a liaison for Department Administrators and BUMG for resolution of financial issues in monthly financial reporting.
- Assist with the communication of changes in policy or new initiatives to the Departments of BUMG.
- Prepare, maintain and distribute and present various ad-hoc financial analyses as requested by BUMG and hospital leadership.
- Complete special projects and other duties as needed.
- Maintains a level of professional knowledge by attending healthcare related and financial seminars and monitoring healthcare financial and governmental websites.
- Assists in various financial analyses for the year-end Audit, as well as the timely completion of the Audit.
- Provides general financial and analytical support to the Revenue manager and/or management as requested.
- Conforms to hospital standards of performance and conduct, including those pertaining to patient rights, so that the best possible customer service and patient care may be provided.
- Utilizes hospital's behavioral standards as the basis for decision-making and to facilitate the hospital's mission and goals.
- Follows established hospital infection control and safety procedures.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION:
- Requires the completion of a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance (or closely related field).
EXPERIENCE:
- A minimum of 5 years of financial experience. Healthcare experience preferred-but not necessary.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of accounting and finance principles.
- Comprehensive understanding of financial statement preparation, the ability to research and interpret data, and an understanding of financial and operational systems. Familiarity with health care accounting and systems is a plus.
- Ability to work independently and excel in a complex, demanding environment required with time-sensitive deadlines.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with physicians, management, staff, and other internal/external customers.
- Experience in translating and communicating key analyses and assumptions in concise fashion to Senior Management for decision making purposes.
- Demonstrated computer proficiency/skills with standard Microsoft programs (i.e. Excel Word, PowerPoint, Access and other analytical tools) and experience with accounting systems required. Must also have ability to train others.
