Senior Financial Analyst

General Summary:
This is a senior level individual contributor position that performs moderately complex analysis related to Group Products actuarial and financial experience. These efforts may be done individually or with others and serve to inform and ground business decisions. In this role, you will utilize and grow strong financial analysis and technical skills to ensure the effective and efficient financial management of Group products. Responsibilities may include the development of, implementation of, and adherence to financial policies and procedures that will improve operations, consistency, controls, process efficiency, and effectiveness Group Valuation function.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
• Participate in the development and improvement of analytical and reporting tools that are critical to the success of Group Valuation.
• Use knowledge and skills to make appropriate recommendations for efficiencies and to enhance productivity.
• Maintain integrity of data in various systems and data assets that support the specific Group Valuation and related accounting
• Analyze financial data, provide recommendations for appropriate action, and prepare related reports in consultation with more senior staff
• Demonstrate ability to utilize resources and produce results to solve problems or issues with minimal support.
• Accept responsibility for outcome of his/her own efforts.
• Partner effectively with peers and others up to the Vice President level to provide solutions that deliver business value.
• Communicate issues identified, proactively recommend the most appropriate/effective resolutions and present effectively to management.
• Maintain a strong, specialized working knowledge of Unum's products, services and business processes including, his/her specific business area, the issues and technical skills required to support the area.

Job Specifications
• Bachelor's degree with either related certification or advanced degree preferred.
• Three to six years of directly related work experience.
• Strong understanding of the components of multiple financial statements and how they interact with one another.
• Strong technical skills - SQL, MS Office and some knowledge or demonstrated ability to learn data and visualization tools such as Alteryx, SAS, and Tableau.
• Experience navigating change in a positive way.
• Ability to function with and make decisions in an ambiguous environment.
• Highly motivated individual able to take independent actions to solve problems/issues with limited involvement from manager.
• Manage multiple projects simultaneously with minimal guidance from manager.
• Strong communication, presentation, and negotiation skills with all levels of management. Adept at handling group dynamics.
• Ability to link understanding of business processes, business drivers, and changes to other areas and financial results and trends.
