Job Description

350.org is looking for a Senior Global Organiser to help strengthen the grassroots movement for decentralised renewable energy, primarily by achieving the growth of a new online network of local group leaders who build and are politicised to campaign for local decentralised renewable energy projects.

About 350.org

350.org is building a global grassroots movement to solve the climate crisis. Our online campaigns, grassroots organizing, and mass public actions are led from the bottom up by thousands of volunteer organizers in over 188 countries. 350.org works hard to organize in a new way—everywhere at once, using online tools to facilitate strategic offline action. We want to be a laboratory for the best ways to strengthen the climate movement and catalyze transformation around the world. The values that guide and drive our work are listed here.

About the Senior Global Organiser role

The Senior Global Organiser is part of the Global Movement Support Team, in the Campaigns and Organising Department at 350.org. This role will focus on supporting one of 350.org’s key tactics in our theory of change, our belief in the power of growing the climate movement’s local community power, through supporting and incubating volunteer local leaders and groups, and mobilising them for political action.

Success in the role would look like: Strengthening the grassroots movement for decentralised renewable energy by achieving the growth of a new online network of local group leaders who build and are politicised to campaign for local decentralised renewable energy projects. The dream candidate will have skills and experience in online community building, training and coaching volunteers, and knowledge of decentralised renewable energy.

The role will collaborate closely across the organisation to achieve these successes, particularly with regional organisers (across Africa, Asia, Pacific, North America, Latin America and Europe), and global digital organisers, global campaigners, global digital campaigners, our global Product Team, and the other members of the global Movement Support Team.

The Global Movement Support Team supports 350s global organising, training, mobilising and movement partnerships to inspire and bring new people into 350s network and the climate movement. Recent highlights from our work include the Global Just Recovery Gathering training and Global Power Up mobilisation. Our team culture prides itself on achieving high vision and impact, being generous and collaborative, highly reliable, centering equity, and fiercely kind and caring. It’s a fun place to be.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead and project manage iterative phases of an experimental Our Own Power global project to grow, politicise and coach a new local volunteer group online network that builds and campaigns for local decentralised renewable energy projects.

  • If they emerge, coordinate the development and delivery of emerging multi-country public mobilisations for decentralised renewable energy.
  • Contribute to the development of 350s Network Development and Movement Support strategies
  • Support the global Organising “Community of Practice”, made up of organising staff across the organisation, and 350 having best practice organising.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated highly collaborative working practices, with an ability to share and build joint vision, alignment and commitment with key coworkers and external stakeholders at all levels.
