Position Description
Develop commodity strategies: identifying potential suppliers, analyzing supplier capabilities, selecting suppliers, and determining prices and spend strategies, and finalizing terms and conditions of agreements. Analyze current spend and continually evaluate current suppliers, consolidate spend across supply base to create leverage, analyze purchasing trends, and develop sourcing alternatives. Optimize global supply chain performance through cost and scenario analysis and benchmarking. Develop an in-depth understanding of value-added manufacturing processes and costs, reverse logistics, and market intelligence. Apply this knowledge to influence the company’s future product roadmap and advise managers and stakeholders on sourcing decisions. Issue RFx (request for bid, request for information, request for proposal, request for quote, etc.) for sourcing assigned commodities. Review, analyze, and clarify quotations and proposals from suppliers. Provide right recommendation based on sourcing process for approval and finalize and release contracts and purchase orders. Drive price negotiation processes, through information collection analysis, to ensure that the company’s commodity pricing is best in class. Drive cost reduction and avoidance initiatives continually through ad hoc price negotiations based on statistical analysis, predictive modeling, etc. Evaluate and provide guidance on final selection of suppliers, perform value analysis to examine collected information, make practical recommendation to the company, and evaluate supplier core competencies and competitive positioning using industry cost models. Evaluate supplier business proposals and present recommendations that will result in cost savings, avoidance, or containment. Identify supplier consolidation opportunities that will generate savings from executing strategic sourcing projects. Develop sourcing and negotiation strategies that deliver against business objectives and achieve sustainable relationships with suppliers. Design, conduct, and synthesize supplier, industry, and market research for assigned commodities to develop sourcing strategy. Gather input from all areas of category management, including category business plans, global market and pricing analysis, and procurement support, to solve any related problems. Collect and organize information to drive cost transparency and build Total Cost of Ownership models, supporting sourcing decisions. Lead and act as a key contact for various supplier selection processes to meet the growth and cost objectives and collaboration activities in early product transfer phase. Identify and achieve saving according to benchmark study, VA/VE (value analysis/value engineering), competitive bidding, resourcing, etc. Work with suppliers effectively to negotiate optimal terms for sourcing. Understand, record, and analyze the trade-offs between cost, volume, and quality to strike agreements that meet the company’s performance criteria and develop solutions to secure long-term supply continuity. Assess, analyze, and mitigate risks to the business. Manage global supply chain disruptions in real time with the support and feedback of a cross-functional team. Monitor current category market conditions and technology roadmaps and identify supply/demand challenges and opportunities. Maintain supplier relationship by effective communication, track supplier KPI (key performance indicator), drive supplier to improve, and lead commercial issue resolutions.
Minimum Requirement
Master’s degree or foreign equivalent in Business Administration, Operations Management, Engineering, Finance, or a related field, plus 3 years of experience in the job offered or a related position.
Skills Required
- 3 years of experience in the Medical Products industry, Pharmaceuticals industry, Medical Devices industry, or Biotechnology industry.
- 3 years of experience working in direct categories, such as plastics, metals, motors, pumps, or electronics, in a regulated industry.
- 3 years of experience conducting strategic sourcing activities with domestic and international suppliers.
- Domestic travel is required 50% of the time.
- International travel is required 25% of the time.
- Telecommuting from anywhere in the United States is allowed.
Rate of Pay: $196,872 to $217,210 per year
