Job Description

The Sensing, Safety and Industrial Components Business develops smart sensors, motor controllers, and connectivity solutions to work within the Rockwell Automation Integrated Architecture. As a Senior Hardware Systems Engineer, you will evaluate the reliability of materials, properties and techniques used in production. Additionally, you will plan, design, and develop electronic parts, components, integrated circuitry, mechanical systems, equipment and packaging, or optical systems. You will report to the Manager, Advanced Hardware Engineering and have a hybrid schedule working in Chelmsford, MA.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to new product development of embedded communication and control modules from concept through production.
  • Work with system, hardware, and firmware design personnel to create project specifications and then execute through the entire development cycle.
  • Work in a cross functional environment with duties including implementation and characterization of sensing and safety hardware
  • Create and maintain technical requirements; design, optimize, and validate devices electrically and functionally
  • Determine design approaches; define engineering tests to support design and production.

The Essentials - You Will Have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent engineering discipline
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.
  • The ability to travel 15% of the time.

The Preferred - You Might Also Have:

  • Master of Science in Electrical Engineering or Engineering Management
  • Typically requires 8+ years of experience in embedded hardware design
  • Typically requires 8+ years of experience with microprocessor or microcontroller-based embedded system design, digital circuit design, analog circuit design, Ethernet hardware design, switching power supply design, and electromagnetic design and test
  • Demonstrated experience as a member of a project team for hardware development
  • Ability to troubleshoot and perform root cause analysis for analog and digital circuits.
  • Experience with typical embedded control peripherals (RAM, Flash, FPGA, SPI, I2C, UART, PWM, A/D, Ethernet/MII, CAN), typical design and test equipment (oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, logic analyzers, digital signal analyzers), and writing and executing hardware test specifications.
  • Demonstrated skills in the hardware development process, including circuit simulation & design, component derating, hardware debug & checkout.
  • Proven ability to analyze and solve complex problems which involve both hardware and firmware.
  • Mentor Graphics/Expedition schematic entry experience, EMC testing.
  • Experience with writing and executing hardware and system test specifications
  • Working knowledge of discrete-time signal processing principles and analysis
