Job Description

Reimagine the infrastructure of cancer care within a community that values integrity, inspires growth, and is uniquely positioned to create a more modern, connected oncology ecosystem.
We're looking for a Senior Health Equity Scientist to help us accomplish our mission to improve lives by learning from the experience of every cancer patient. Are you ready to be the next changemaker in cancer care?
What You'll Do
In this role, you will report to and work closely with our Head of Health Equity Research in driving a unified vision and strategy for advancing rigorous and solution-oriented cancer health equity research using real world data. You will help embed health equity principles across the organization, ensuring that Flatiron's data enable rigorous health equity research and that Flatiron brings key health equity insights into all of our products and research. You will also serve as a lead investigator within the Flatiron Research Unit's Health Equity Research Lab. This role has significant internal influence and is vital to advancing Flatiron's mission and positioning Flatiron as an industry leader in this effort. To that end, you will:
  • Become a subject matter expert on our data and its capabilities as it relates to enabling rigorous and solution-oriented cancer health equity research that promotes equitable care and diversity in clinical trials.
  • Advance data representativeness, augment datasets through development of new variables (e.g. Social Determinants of Health variables) and refine analytic methods necessary to deepen insights in all areas of health equity research using real world data.
  • Independently lead and manage multiple health equity-related work streams with different time-lines and stakeholders simultaneously, setting a high bar for quality, efficiency and fit-for-purpose deliverables.
  • Independently lead, scope, manage and execute health equity research of increasing complexity, scope and impact as the lead investigator and/or in a supervisory role. Scope includes advanced methods, quality assessment, applications and variable development.
  • Lead and author increasingly impactful scientific/thought-leadership publications that advance health equity objectives.
  • Serve as an internal consultant in providing health equity subject matter and strategy expertise to teams across the Flatiron organization (i.e., Real World Evidence, Clinical Research, International and Health Care Business Units)
  • Engage with internal cross-functional and cross-organizational teams to support real world evidence generation for health equity and inclusive clinical trials.
  • Engage as a health equity research expert with external stakeholders around health equity considerations: life-science partners, regulatory bodies, academia, patient advocacy organizations and other entities.

In addition, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with Flatiron teams leading clinician and patient facing engagement in the US and internationally, work closely with product and data platform teams, learn from real world data experts globally, build internal and external capabilities to address health inequities and contribute a health equity lens to the advancement of the role of real world evidence to support drug development, public health policy and care delivery. You will be joining a supportive, highly collaborative multidisciplinary environment committed to your success and the success of health equity research that produces clinically-meaningful and actionable results.
Who You Are
You're a kind, passionate and collaborative problem-solver who values the opportunity to think beyond the way things are. You are passionate about and have deep expertise in health equity research, clinical trial diversity, and real world data (e.g., healthcare claims or electronic health records). You are excited by the prospect of rolling up your sleeves to tackle meaningful problems each and every day.
  • You are a health equity expert with doctoral level degree (e.g., PhD, ScD, or equivalent) and advanced training in Public Health, Epidemiology, Health Policy, Health Services Research or a related field.
  • You have 5+ years of experience contributing to and leading health equity research and related activities.
  • You have a deep understanding of real world data, including the strengths and limitations of electronic health records (EHR), claims data, and other data sources relevant to oncology and to health equity research.
  • You have a deep understanding of health equity concepts (e.g., social determinants of health) and issues (e.g., clinical trial diversity) impacting patients with cancer.
  • You have experience leading, scoping, executing, and publishing health equity research studies using real-world data.
  • You have experience analyzing data using statistical software (e.g., R, SAS).
  • You have the agility to work across and develop relationships with diverse, cross-functional teams across a complex organization.
  • You are flexible, have a start-up mindset, and enjoy a fast-paced environment.
  • You have the ability to juggle multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • You have exceptional written and communication skills.
  • You share our commitments to diversity, equity and inclusion to support a culture of belonging at Flatiron
