WHAT YOU'LL DO.In partnership with the HR Ops team, under the supervision of the Director of HR Ops, the Senior HR Generalist will administer HR-related policies and programs, balancing employee advocacy and business operating needs. You'll have the HR and business acumen to promote equity, fair treatment, and positive employee relations - and ensure compliance with state and federal employment laws. This position will also act as a resource for colleagues with less experience. Main responsibilities are listed below:
Compliance.
  • Provide guidance to employees and people managers on human resources issues and employment law
  • Partner with Talent Acquisition to ensure that our employment application contains appropriate language to minimize exposure to negligent hiring and employment-at-will liability, as well as applicable non-discrimination laws
  • Confirm compliance pertaining to criminal background inquiries, including ban-the-box laws, credit check laws, federal and state Fair Credit Reporting Act laws, and industry-specific regulatory background check rules
  • Assist in the review of offer letters and employment contracts to prevent the creation of express or implied agreements of permanent employment
  • Review classification of employees as exempt or non-exempt to ensure compliance with wage and hour laws and payment of overtime
  • Ensure all employees are trained regarding their rights and responsibilities under applicable equal employment opportunity laws, policies, and HCSS's complaint procedure
  • Process all required federal and state reporting (EEO, Vets, etc.)
  • Perform compliance audits as requested

Employee Relations.
  • Support and counsel employees and people managers on personnel and job-related conflicts, problem solving and dispute resolution, managing employee performance issues, review, and assessment of termination requests
  • Assist with conducting complex/sensitive employee-related investigations
  • Effectively communicate and document Performance Improvement Plans and Write-ups, in partnership with people managers
  • Conduct exit interviews and provide HR Leadership with key metrics applicable to offboarding and retention

Compensation.
  • Assist in the execution of bonus plans, merit processes, and routine/special request reports
  • Partner with the Talent team to assist in the execution and communication with the timing of salary reviews, correlation of increases to performance, and performance evaluation procedures

Policies and Procedures.
  • Contribute to the formulation of HR Operations policies and procedures
  • Review and maintain the Employee Handbook and Code of Conduct on a quarterly and annual basis, ensuring policies are administered fairly and consistently
  • Effectively communicate and execute necessary changes to policies and procedures
  • Partner with the HR Operations team to document, and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for HR Ops-related processes
