Job Description
Reporting to the Director, People Business Partners, the Sr. People Business Partner supports the business strategy and operations objectives of the HQ teams, by providing employee relations support, guidance, and coaching to people managers and employees regarding the application of Paper's people policies, programs, procedures, and practices.
This individual will be a charismatic and analytical HR professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment. They should enjoy helping people achieve job satisfaction, and be motivated by Paper's mission of educational equity.
Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with business leaders to support and guide business projects, aligning them with HR strategies. Ability to understand what the department does, how they operate, and their challenges/barriers to be able to partner with them in various people-related initiatives.
  • Oversee day-to-day HR business partnerships with the HQ departments - this includes but is not limited to:
    • Providing advice, interpretation, coaching, and guidance to managers and employees on employee relations, employment law interpretation, complaints, investigations, risk reduction and response management, employee performance, leadership development, conflict resolution, performance management, progressive discipline, HR documentation, and terminations.
    • Address complex employee relations issues and recommend appropriate courses of action.
  • Partner closely with the Director, People Business Partners on strategic HR initiatives and projects. This will include:
    • Creating, analyzing, and interpreting ad hoc HR reports as a means to extract historical information, a method to track and monitor current processes, and organize big project data.
    • Creating/preparing slide decks and presentations that advocate for your recommended solution(s).
    • Creating/preparing easy-to-follow flow/process charts and organization design charts to help map out strategic plans.
    • Preparing project documentation to align all leaders on the current state, issue at hand, and proposed solution/next steps.
    • Maintaining the work structure by updating job requirements and job descriptions for all positions.
  • Develop strategies & collaborate with the team in the execution of business initiatives along with ensuring appropriate communication and change management; partner with the leadership team and employees to execute activities that build positive morale and improve retention.
  • Work closely with management and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention.
  • Actively collaborates with the broader people team to deliver excellence in HR practices, strategy, systems, total rewards, and culture throughout the organization.
  • Drives continuous improvement and standardization of HR Processes to ensure maximum efficiency and effectiveness, analyzes the effectiveness of HR operations and policies
  • Familiarity with compensation policy to be able to give counsel/ recommendations to management - advise management on handling crucial compensation conversations. Work with the business to identify business cases that support the compensation model for a joint solution.
  • Suggest new people operations strategies and policies aligned with company goals and objectives.
  • Identify training needs for teams and individuals & evaluate training programs.
  • Other duties and projects, as assigned.


Qualifications:

  • Proven work experience as a(n) HR/people operations business partner, partnering with various corporate/headquarters departments (e.g., revenue operations, engineering, finance).
  • Degree or diploma in Human Resources Management or in a related field is an asset.
  • Excellent demonstrated communication (verbal and written), people, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to interface with cross-functional disciplines; using excellent interpersonal skills, strong leadership skills, and employee relations to drive tasks to completion.
  • Analytical, goal-oriented, with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Data-driven, with strong analytical & spreadsheet skills (in Excel and Google Sheets) - must be familiar with import ranges, pivot tables, vlookups, and other formulas to manipulate potential large data sets of information and create automated trackers.
  • Ability to learn new tools with ease and leverage them within various projects (e.g., Notion, Miro).
  • Thorough knowledge of CAD/US labor legislation.
  • Full understanding of all HR/people operations functions and best practices to navigate a work environment where formal company policies and procedures are a work-in-progress.
  • This role can be based in any geography in the US or Canada.
