Senior Infrastructure Engineer

OVERVIEW

Skillsoft is currently looking to hire a fulltime, permanent, Azure Cloud Operations Engineer to join our growing team. The Operations Engineer role is part of the Digital and IT infrastructure and Operations team within Skillsoft IT, focused on the operational management and maintenance of our diverse cloud infrastructure.  This position emphasizes the management and maintenance of our robust cloud infrastructure.  You will work closely with the Cloud Engineering team to ensure that services are operating optimally.  You will gain exposure to innovative technologies, placing yourself at the forefront of a field that is constantly evolving.

You will collaborate with experienced platform engineers on projects to gather information, and support Azure implementation and build.  Exposure to a wide variety of innovative technologies and software is a given in this fast-paced and varied role.

OPPORTUNITY HIGHLIGHTS

• 50% dedicated to identifying and resolving gaps within our monitoring and alerting infrastructure. This involves the identification of metrics and building associating alert rules to capture and developing SOPs to resolve.
• 50% of your time spent on BAU operations, ensuring the smooth running of our Azure Cloud infrastructure. This involves managing the systems, applying updates, and working with other cloud operations team members to troubleshoot issues as they arise.
• Actively monitor the cloud ticket queue for issues, prioritizing and addressing them in a timely and efficient manner.
• Responsible for the day-to-day operation of server resource; routine administration, preventative maintenance, monitoring, and decision making during critical failures, deployments, and projects.
• Collaborate with the wider team to ensure smooth and reliable operation of software and systems for fulfilling business objectives and processes.
• Reduce technical debt burden across the enterprise.
• Monitor and test system performance; prepare and deliver system performance statistics and reports.
• Participate in regular business continuity plan testing for critical infrastructure components.
• Participates within the global IT teams to ensure a highly available global IT infrastructure.
• Assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

• 3+ years hands-on experience working with Azure.

• Hands on experience working with and developing alerting rules for Azure Monitor, or equivalent (Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, etc.).

• Hands on experience supporting, IaaS, Azure Storage Sync, Azure Backup, Web Apps, Azure SQL, Application Gateway, is preferred.

• Proactive problem-solver with a passion for making a meaningful impact on system operation and efficiency.
• A solid foundation in traditional Windows server administration tasks, such as system installation/configuration, security principles, backup/recovery, and troubleshooting.
• Comfortable scripting in PowerShell, Bash, or other automation languages.
• Proficiency in incident management and change management protocols within a cloud environment.
• Knowledge of ITSM/ITIL frameworks and their application in a cloud environment.
• Knowledge of Agile methodologies and tools such as Jira.
• Experience managing incidents, change projects.
