You will lead primary quantitative and qualitative research projects among current and target NPR audiences. You will oversee NPR’s audience advisory panel, NPR Listens, to support NPR across internal clients. And you will apply industry best practices to survey design and panel management. You know how to make data come to life and be actionable. And you love the idea of using data to make NPR (and the world) a better place.

This is a union represented role covered under the terms of a collective bargaining agreement with DMU. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Panel health and management

  1. Develops, plans, and administers recruitment plans, ensuring the composition of the Panel meets evolving organizational needs.
  2. Monitor Panel health and quality, and resolve any issues in need of attention.
  3. Maintain Panel hygiene by deleting inactive members, archiving old projects, updating variables, etc.
  4. Handle all communications with Panelists, including managing the Panel email inbox.
  5. Oversee the relationship(s) with external Panel supplier
  6. Serve as internal expert for advanced programming in the Panel, and trains staff on functional software tasks including survey programming, variable coding and data exporting; troubleshoots reported problems.

Stakeholder communication and project coordination

  1. Collaborate with internal stakeholders across NPR, including Content, Corporate Sponsorship, and Audience Growth on project scoping, design, fieldwork, analysis, and reporting.
  2. Coordinate with AI staff for all research projects fielded on the audience Panel, flagging concerns about timing and deadlines as appropriate.
  3. Oversee ongoing Panel based trackers.

Analysis, Reporting, and Communication

  1. Troubleshoot data, analyze and interpret results.
  2. Write reports and presentation materials, ensuring they are not just reporting the results but telling a “so what, now what” story to spur action.
  3. Articulates needs and advocates on behalf of the audience, and survey respondents in particular.
  4. Ties together findings from previous NPR or external research to create more holistic findings.
  5. Continue to develop technical skills, including mastery of more advanced techniques.
  6. Seek out and develop new solutions.
  7. Run reports in Windows or Google environments using software such as Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, and other programs.
  8. Actively solicits, respects, and incorporates alternative points of view.

Other

  1. Successfully builds meaningful relationships throughout NPR in order to anticipate audience research needs and increase the actionability of our work.
  2. Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Four years’ experience as a market researcher.
  • Expert knowledge of media, technology, and market research techniques and methodology.
  • Robust experience executing end-to-end, complex qualitative and quantitative research studies
  • Proficiency in Windows and Google Suite software.
  • Familiarity with statistical analysis techniques.
  • Detail oriented and strong data analysis skills.
  • Able to communicate complex findings in a clear and engaging manner.
  • Excellent organization and verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated presence and authority in dealing with people at all organizational levels and subject matter areas.
  • Ability to manage and create concurrent work plans for multiple projects.
  • Facility dealing with people in a variety of settings.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Research supplier-side experience.
  • Experience with online research communities and proprietary panels.
  • Experience with Tivian, Alchemer, and Marketsight is preferred.

WORK LOCATION

  • Remote Permitted: This is a remote permitted role. This role is based out of our Washington, DC office but the employee may choose to work on a remote basis from a location that NPR approves.

JOB TYPE

  • This is a full time, exempt position.

COMPENSATION

Salary Range: The U.S. based anticipated salary range for this opportunity is $94,400 - 105,500 plus benefits. The range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum salaries NPR expects to provide for new hires for the position across all US locations.

Benefits: NPR offers access to comprehensive benefits for employees and dependents. Regular, full-time employees scheduled to work 30 hours or more per week are eligible to enroll in NPR’s benefits options. Plan options include medical, dental, vision, life/ accidental death and dismemberment, long-term disability, short-term disability, and voluntary retirement savings to all eligible NPR employees.
