Senior Internal Controls Advisor

As a Senior Internal Controls Advisor at Desjardins Group, you're part of a team of seasoned professionals that contributes to sound management by overseeing, analyzing and preventing operational risks in the P&C insurance sector. You draw on a deep understanding of controls and regulatory changes involving business practices, internal processes, fraud and IT. You make recommendations on the development and rollout of projects and initiatives that involve operational controls and are highly complex, both conceptually, and in terms of operations. You use your analytical skills and comprehensive, in-depth knowledge of your line of business and the organization. Coordination is critical. You interact with multiple stakeholders in a wide range of fields. More specifically, you are required to:

• Plan and conduct assessments of the design and effectiveness of internal controls

• Educate the organization about internal controls

• Recommend enhanced controls in collaboration with expert groups

• Be the point of contact for operations and act as a change ambassador to effectively deploy regulatory changes

• Conduct analyses and develop positions in collaboration with experts from various risk categories and business sectors for the P&C insurance sector

• Identify and analyze issues, report major issues and diagnose issues and make recommendations to decision-making bodies

• Represent your unit before committees and working groups

What you bring to the table

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration or a related field

• A minimum of eight years of relevant experience, including at least five years in controls or internal audits

• Please note that other combinations of qualifications and relevant experience may be considered

• Designation professional accounting designation (CPA)”. 

• Strong communication skills in both French and English, both oral and written due to the nature of the duties or work tools or because the position involves interactions with english-speaking partners, members and/or clients

• Familiarity with the best practices, methodologies and tools used in risk management, governance and internal controls
