Brookfield Reinsurance is positioned to act as a strong, long-term partner to the insurance sector, with a primary focus on the life, annuity and pension market in North America and Europe. The business provides annuity-based reinsurance products to insurance and reinsurance companies and also acts as a direct issuer of pension risk transfer products for pension plan sponsors. In doing so, the business seeks to match long-duration liabilities with a portfolio of high-quality investments in order to generate attractive, risk-adjusted returns.

Job Description

The responsibilities for this position would include:

Core responsibilities

• Take ownership over Special Purpose Vehicle ("SPV") for which you are responsible with the aim of completing tasks that include the following:
  • Accounting elections assessment on new trades
  • Second level review and confirmation of trade info in Clearwater
  • Suspense clearance
  • Investment payables and receivables balance reconciliation
  • P&L reconciliation and analysis
  • Assistance with accounting and related analysis for complex securitization transactions.
• Prepare quarterly current expected credit losses assessment for US GAAP
• Review set-up for initial book yields and monitor book yields on an ongoing basis
• Monitor ratings process and ensure in compliance with insurance regulatory requirements
• Prepare investment accounting application related memos when needed
• Understand and apply US GAAP and Statutory accounting conclusions to investment portfolio. Ensure relevant controls and processes are in place and effective
• Assist in the adoption of new accounting standards for investments and new investment structures or asset types.
• Trending of investment income from month to month

Additional responsibilities

• Support audit requests, including SOX process walkthroughs, controls documentation, and ad-hoc analysis
• Work and communicate directly with the various teams, including Investment, Operations, Corporate Accounting, and Reporting
• Act as key contact with Clearwater
• Assist in the preparation of quarterly financial packages and disclosure when needed
• Identify opportunities to provide improvements of processes and controls
• Various special duties and projects as assigned

Requirements:

• Undergraduate degree in accounting, finance or business
• 3 or more years of investment accounting or finance experience

• Experience with US GAAP and Statutory accounting
• Recognized professional accounting designation (CPA)
• Solid understanding of investment products, such as fixed income, equities, mortgage, private loans, securitization, derivatives, etc.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools; Experience with Clearwater or SQL is an asset
• Excellent organizational skills with ability to multi-task
• Self-motivated individual with strong communication skills (written and oral)
• Strong analytical and conceptual thinker who works well in a fast-paced, dynamic, complex and unstructured environment
• Flexible with strong mindset on teamwork as well as professional and positive attitude

Salary Range: $100,000 - $115,000

Our compensation structure is comprised of a base salary and a short-term incentive program (cash bonus). Cash compensation tends to vary based on geography to account for local market conditions and is set to be market competitive. Compensation decisions are based on a number of factors including relative experience, overall years of experience, industry experience, education, and designations.
