Job Description

This role will have a Hybrid work arrangement, with the expectation of working in an office (Hartford, CT) 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).

This position is for a highly motivated individual to provide oversight of critical data points used across the investment platform, including security reference, derived, fundamental, analytical and market data in the Data Integrity Group in Investment Operations.

CASH OPERATIONS OVERVIEW:

This opening is for a Senior Investment Operations Analyst in the Cash Operations Team in Business Operations. Cash Operations is responsible for a variety of cash reconciliation, cash forecasting, and data validation processes needed to support our internal and external clients. The Team performs a morning reconciliation of prior day activity and ending cash balances in investment accounts and 'publishes' today's forecast activity to Portfolio Managers. Intraday the team validates payment and trade settlement records to custodian records, communicating financial updates to Traders and Treasury Operations. Team members routinely work with market data sources, such as Bloomberg, with Custodian Banks or with Investment Analysts to maintain payment schedules for principal and interest security payments, reconciling all investment cash flows between HIMCO Investment and Accounting system projections to Custodian book of record activity for accurate Financial Reporting and Performance Reporting.

WHAT ARE THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION?

This is a highly visible position. Successful incumbents will be responsible for:

  • Daily activities could include publishing and reconciling investment accounts for Portfolio Managers, calculating expected interest and principal payments, performing detailed research on missing or late security payments, working with loan servicers or lending agents on payment details for Commercial Mortgage Loans or Bank Loans, tracking and moving investment income between appropriate entities and supporting external client Accounting Agents and other parties on understanding HIMCO investment cash flows.
  • Maintaining relationships with vendors, custodial banks, trading counterparties, clients, and other external parties, always representing HIMCO in a professional manner.
  • Developing and maintaining detailed procedures and evidence of process controls to cross-train peers, support requests from auditors, and fulfil testing of controls in a highly regulated industry.
  • Preparing reporting on key performance indicators such as, variances between projected and actual cash payments, overdrawn cash balances and many other types of reconciliation variances between internal and external systems.
  • Striving for continuous process improvement, by working with HIMCO IT, custodial banks and software vendors to fully utilize system capabilities, implement new tools, and streamline processes.

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

Qualified candidates will have the following:

  • BS/BA degree in Finance, Business or related field; MBA or CFA a plus.
  • 7+ years of experience in Investment Management Operations or Middle Office roles.
  • Broad understanding of securities processing and settlement practices across Fixed Income, Equity, Derivatives, and Alternative Asset classes.
  • Several years direct support of either Derivatives or Alternative Asset Operations is required.
  • Experienced with Bloomberg for Public Asset research and with Excel for reporting and analytics.
  • Familiarity with Investment, Accounting, and Performance Measurement systems required; experience with Aladdin, Maximis or Singularity a plus.
  • High degree of initiative and intellectual curiosity, especially in Investments.
  • Exceptional analytical skills, detail oriented, and strong oral and written communications skills.
  • Must be a collaborator, problem solver, critical thinker, possess integrity and a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to work independently on concurrent tasks and adhere to deadlines with evolving priorities.
  • Able to meet high expectations for precision and accuracy.
  • Willingness to develop leadership skills and take ownership of complex workflows and projects.

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$80,080 - $120,120
