Job Description Summary

Senior person responsible for leading portfolio management team and overseeing investment strategy implementation across all client investment portfolios. The role also participates in developing investment strategy and communicating market views, portfolio characteristics and implementation approach that are consistent with the needs, objectives, and constraints of individual portfolios.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for understanding positioning of portfolios, and resulting risk exposures relative to targets, benchmarks, forecasts, and other expectations. Key risks and exposures to be monitored and managed include duration, convexity, credit, and liquidity.
  • Responsible for asset allocation decisions across multi-asset class portfolios, and accountable for performance versus benchmarks for those decisions.
  • Accountable for performance versus peer universes for non-general account (i.e. pension, mutual fund, VA fund, etc.) portfolios.
  • Responsible for overseeing the implementation of strategy within portfolios, consistent with developed market views and the needs, objectives, and constraints of each individual portfolio.
  • Maintains relationships with key market participants and works closely with internal asset class specialists.
  • Participates in established strategy forums, creates additional necessary mechanisms to achieve goals. Coordinates with CAS and Tax Department to understand tax considerations.
  • Responsible for generating and implementing specific tactical strategies, and communicating related portfolio needs, within the context of developed market strategies and current portfolio positioning.
  • Works closely with portfolio managers representing other client portfolios to insure consistent application of investment themes, and appropriate allocation of available investment opportunities.
  • Closely involved in establishing commitments to clients, via supportable rates and plan/forecast mechanisms, endorsing the asset allocation assumptions.
  • Serves as a key spokesperson for communicating portfolio and market strategy within the context of market views, current portfolio positioning, and key objectives and constraints.
  • Works with CAS and clients as needed to communicate portfolio-level strategy.
  • Participates in, leading as required, morning markets meetings, and investment strategy meetings.
  • Works closely with team members on macroeconomic and market views (interest rates, fixed income, currencies, equities and alternatives) to establish strategy across markets, and to assure consistent communication.
  • Responsible for understanding market levels and market dynamics in each market area.
  • Manage and develop a team investment

May perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Reporting Relationships: Reports to Chief Investment Officer. Leads a team of four or more Investment Professionals/Analysts.

Typical Skills and Experiences:

Education: Bachelor's degree; CFA or graduate degree is preferred.

Experience: 15 plus years investment experience, including exposure to fixed income assets, risk management and asset allocation.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Excellent strategic thinking and market awareness to integrate top down market views with bottom up asset class views. Ability to balance client needs/considerations with market opportunities and a strong understanding of risk/return tradeoffs in developing/executing investment strategies for client portfolios. Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work closely with internal asset class specialists and other investment functions in implementing investment strategies and ensuring a common understanding of the strategies.

Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.
