Senior Java Developer

Applied Research Associates, Inc. (ARA) is actively seeking a highly qualified Senior Java Developer with a passion for the development of advanced algorithms and software for the Intelligence and Defense communities. You will join a diverse multi-disciplined collaborative team of engineers and developers to build novel software solutions to characterize above-ground and underground structures. Software solutions will be integrated into a CI/CD pipeline and deployed in a web-based, microservices cloud architecture. Senior Java Developer Responsibilities:

The ideal candidate will have an active interest in combining strong software design, development, and architecture skills with domain-specific disciplines. Your day-to-day work will consist of working on an agile team to develop expert system AI capabilities. This will include implementing engineering rules and algorithms, integrating them into a cloud software solution, and testing algorithm and system performance. The candidate should demonstrate an initiative in problem-solving and a desire to incorporate novel solutions for complex problems.

Required Senior Java Developer Qualifications:

• Due to the work you'll perform and interactions with the intelligence community and DoD programs you will need to be a US citizen with the ability to obtain a DoD Security Clearance (selected applicants will undergo a security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements at the time of employment
• BS in Computer Science or a related field with a minimum of 8-10 years of experience
• Strong foundation in software development and experience with Java, Python, and/or C++
• Understanding of best practices for software development including coding standards, code reviews, version control, build processes, CI/CD, and testing
• Interested in learning new programming languages and technologies
• Demonstrated experience going from problem statement to prototype to production-ready algorithms

Additional Senior Java Developer Desirable Qualifications:

• MS / PhD in Computer Science or a related field
• Team player with excellent presentation and written / oral communication skills
• Experience with GIS, geospatial data formats, coordinate reference systems, and tools such as GDAL, QGIS, or ArcGIS
• Experience integrating software capabilities into cloud computing environments
• Agile software development practices
• Experience working on intelligence and DoD programs
• Prior / existing security clearance.
