Senior Java Engineer

You will be working in the Banking Technology Platform in a multi-disciplinary team, responsible for realizing the core platform of ING. Currently, the team is working on the One Experience applications used globally within ING. We have raised internal software engineering to the core focus. Better technology, direct user feedback, fast delivery processes, and maximizing automation are the current standard of excellent service in these modern times. We started with a 100% greenfield product and built it until the current stage. This means no legacy, new technology, lots of room for new ideas, and the chance to roll out this potentially successful product to multiple countries in the world. 

Job Description

The team is called Bifrost and we form a large part of our Web and Mobile SDK area. Our focus is in improving the way ING integrates and deploys our code, from concept to production. Our aim is to provide a better experience for our engineers and ultimately, for our clients. You will join a newly formed team of highly skilled people to create the next generation of our frontend delivery services. The team’s directive is to deliver a high performing, scalable and fast solution that will be used globally using the latest ING tech stack. 

Our stack 

Within the IT-Chapter we mainly use the following technologies and frameworks: Java, Rest API, Kafka, Cassandra, Azure DevOps (Repos, Pipeline, Boards, Artifacts), Jenkins, Maven, Elastic Search. All based on a Container Hosting Platform (Openshift, Kubernetes) on which we deliver every two weeks new features into production. 

How to succeed

Must have:

• You have an awesome personality
• You are experienced in Java, and you enjoy coming up with solutions
• You have experience with secure programming.
• You have experience with REST API development
• You have experience with Kafka Messaging
• You have experience with Azure Cloud or similar cloud platforms
• You have a thorough understanding of (test) automation, continuous delivery, deployment tools, and pipelines. We work with Git, Azure DevOps, Openshift, Kubernetes, Ansible, Checkmarx, Azure Artifacts
• You have sound knowledge of relational databases (Oracle, or alike) and NoSQL datastores (Cassandra, or alike).
• You have Performance/Capacity/Availability Monitoring knowledge of well-known tools in this area (Logstash, Graphite, Grafana, Prometheus, etc.) is a big bonus
• You have experience with performance testing (Gatling).
• You have experience with working in a complex and challenging IT environment
• You have experience in an Agile/Scrum/Dev/Ops team
• You are a team player and a true professional in every way
• Strong social and communication skills. Being a sparring partner for our business colleagues
• Support with incident management

Nice to have:

• Great analytical skills and conceptual/architectural understanding, ability to quickly understand new technical concepts that are outside of your comfort zone
• The ability to transfer knowledge back to the ING Bank by holding presentations, workshops, documentation, and most important: setting new standards for the ways we do tech
• Experience with working in multidisciplinary teams and agile way of working
• To handle application risk controls efficiently, proactively contributing to preventing security and operational risks.
