About Your Project:

The Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System (AWIPS) is a series of technologies that collects weather data, analyzes it, creates visualizations and distributes watches and warnings for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and National Weather Service.

This position is located in Omaha, NE and is a hybrid position.

Required Experience:

• The ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance. U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
• Five or more years directly related to software development engineering in Java. A thorough understanding of Java gained through formal training can substitute for this experience
• Experience with JUnit as a unit testing tool
• Five or more years of experience in software development using Object Oriented Methodologies.
• US Citizenship with the ability to obtain a Secret security clearance - candidate must be able to pass a National Agency Check (NAC).
• Experience working within the Linux environment
• Excellent written and oral communication skills

Desired Experience:

• An active and transferable Secret U.S. government issued security clearance
• Three or more years of experience using Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) and/or Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE) web services architecture. A thorough understanding of ESB or J2EE gained through formal training can substitute for this experience.
• Experience developing and/or supporting solutions for weather and meteorological science.
• Experience programming in Python, JavaScript
• Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, and/or Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) pipelines
• Experience working within a team environment using Agile/DevSecOps methods and tools, to include Jira, Confluence, Jenkins, GIT, Maven, Bitbucket

Required Education:

Typically, this position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM), or a related STEM degree program from an Accredited University/School/College. Equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of education. A University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience, or An Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years' experience
