The Defense Systems Group (DSG) provides analysis-based decision support to senior leaders on space architectures, policy and strategy, developmental planning, system of systems engineering, and threat reduction to help shape future space missions across the national security space enterprise. DSG is unique at Aerospace as it not only directly supports major customers, including, the United States Space Force, the Department of the Air Force, the Missile Defense Agency, U.S. Space Command, U.S. Strategic Command, Air Force Materiel Command, and senior leadership at the Pentagon, but also provides a broad range of services and support across the national space enterprise, maintaining vertical responsibilities with customers but also horizontal, matrixed responsibilities across the corporation.
Within DSG, the Space Innovation Directorate (SID) supports Space Systems Command (SSC), the Space Rapid Capabilities Office (Space RCO) and the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL). Within SID the Responsive Space Branch supports the Space RCO customer and is seeking a Launch Systems Engineer to support launch processing, integration, and associated activities. The Space RCO is rapidly developing and fielding highly classified critical space capabilities for the space enterprise. The Launch Systems Engineer will actively participate in the Early Integration Study activities to ensure operationally dominant space capabilities are delivered at the speed of warfighting relevance.
Due to classified nature of work, it is required to be 100% onsite in Albuquerque, NM on Kirtland AFB
What You'll Be Doing
  • Coordinate with Government, SETA, and contractor teams to conduct launch integration studies and processing
  • Lead analysis and verification activities and manage integration efforts across the Space RCO portfolio
  • Work closely with Material Leaders (O-6s and O-5s)
  • Routinely present status updates to PEO and Technical Director (SES-2 and SES-1)
  • Propose and provide innovative approaches to launch Space RCO systems in atypical timelines
  • Identify risk areas and mitigation efforts to meet mission objectives
  • Interface with multiple government agencies for rideshare opportunities

What You Need to be Successful
Minimum Requirements:
  • BS degree in engineering, mathematics, or physical sciences is required
  • 12 or more years of progressively responsible experience in launch systems engineering or program management
  • Demonstrated ability to form and lead teams
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a highly dynamic Program Office environment with a mix of government, FFRDC, and SETA personnel
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills; experience presenting and writing technical information
  • Travel is required
  • This position requires a Current TS/SCI security clearance, which is issued by the US government. US citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.
